Chapter 495

Snowflakes

The red light turned yellow, then shifted to green. The car began to move again, and Cupid continued driving. This time, he wasn’t taking me home.

Silence fell between us, heavy and suffocating. tried to gather myself. He had been worried about me, furious that I had risked my life just to solve the case.

I lowered my gaze, trying to find a moment of peace, trying to tell him this isn’t just any case but the one that involves Marlik, but the harder I tried, the more it slipped through my fingers. The more unbearable everything felt.

Gently, I reached for his arm, soft, tentative but he didn’t give me a single fraction of attention. His eyes stayed fixed on the road.

Cupid, I’m sorry,I whispered. Cupid?

It’s fine,he said, dismissively.

I stared at him, frustration rising in my chest.

I apologized, Cupid Why are you being difficult?

Difficult? Really?

My shoulders sagged under the weight of his brief glare. I shook my head, exhausted.

I’m sorry. I won’t do that ever again. Can’t you let it go now?I pleaded, hoping he would soften. But he didn’t. He only set his jaw and slowly leaned back in his seat.

Take the wheel for a while,he murmured, letting out a shaky breath.

I reached forward and took the wheel carefully, but my eyes were glued to his face instead of the road, worry building, questions rising.

Before I could make sense of what I was seeing, he sat up again and pulled the car over himself, since I clearly wasn’t concentrating. He lowered his gaze to the wheel, and my heart clenched when his posture faltered.

He looked weak.

Horror washed through me instantly.

Cupid

He stayed still for a long moment, as if regaining strength. When he finally lifted his head, there was a faint pallor to his face, and I froze in disbelief.

Cupid?

Chapter 495-

I’m fine,he murmured

I stared at him like he had just said something ridiculous.

Fitioned

You call this fine? Before he could stop me, I reached for his shirt and lifted it, exposing the spot where he had been shot. The wound had healed, but the purple streak surrounding it told me everything.

The bullet had silver,” I whispered, stunned.

He tugged his shirt back down without responding.

Cupid,I breathed.

He finally looked at me, waiting.

You lied to me,” I said in disbelief. You told me that bullet had no silver.

He didn’t speak. And I couldn’t understand it.

You were ready to die for me without even letting me know? Really?

It’s no big deal. I’ll be fine after some rest. I just didn’t want you to worry,he murmured, still angry at me.

Now my own anger surged. I couldn’t believe he hid it. He kept such a deadly truth from me simply because he didn’t want me worried.

I sat back quietly, turning to the window, biting my lower lip hard. When his voice broke the silence, it was

à request.

Can I smoke?

I turned quickly. He already had the cigarette pack and lighter in hand.

No.

He held my gaze for a long, hard moment, then silently returned the pack and lighter to the console. He pulled the car back onto the road and kept driving.

Silence fell again. Heavy. Long.

And I kept stealing glances at him, knowing he had taken a silver bullet for me without hesitation. He saved my life twice that day. And yet he wasn’t angry about the pain or the wound. He was only furious that I had put myself in danger.

After all of that, he was still worried about me.

I bit my lower lip, leaned over him slowly, and placed my palm on his chest, warm against the hard lines of his body, as if I could soothe the ache beneath.

You alright?I whispered, my lips brushing lightly against his cheek.

Yeah,” he murmured.

He hesitated for a second before slowing the car He turned to me, letting me brush my lips tenderly against his, even though he didn’t respond the way he usually did. He was still upset.
