Chapter 499
Snowflakes
It was the sound of thunder that woke me.
Quietly, I fluttered my eyelids open, staring at the ocean stretched beyond the floor–to–ceiling glass. The curtains swirled gently, revealing a cloudy, restless sky.
Slowly, I turned to reach for him beside me but he wasn’t there. Sleep fled instantly. I pushed myself upright, my heart sinking as I realized I was alone in the bedroom.
With a soft sigh, I lifted the coverlet and slid out of bed. I padded toward the door, stopping at the top of
the stairs.
He was downstairs, seated at the table, going through documents, signing some, skimming others. An ashtray sat nearby, crowded with cigarette butts.
Naked, I made my way down the stairs. The moment I stepped into the living room, his attention slowly snapped to me.
His pen froze midair, hovering over a signature line. Those sharp green eyes took me in as I walked closer.
He dropped the pen and reached for me, wrapping his arms around my waist, pressing a kiss to my hair.
“You’re awake,” he murmured softly.
I didn’t reply. The tenderness in his voice soothed something deep inside me. It told me he wasn’t angry
anymore.
After a few seconds, I pulled back and sat beside him. I reached for his cup of tea, half–empty, and took a sip.
Silence settled between us. He returned to his work while I leaned lightly against him, staring ahead. The rain had stopped. Beyond the glass walls, the thick forest lay under a heavy, clouded sky.
“The rain stopped here,” I murmured.
He nodded without lifting his eyes from the document.
My gaze drifted to what he was signing, and the name caught my attention.
I frowned sharply.
“Oh! Godlike Legal Empire works with the Dallas?” I asked in surprise.
He paused, glancing at me, confusion flickering briefly before I nodded toward the papers.
“Dallas Empire is owned by Lady Glitters. She’s my mother–in–law. Pinky Pie’s mom.”
He studied me for a long moment, then nodded slowly, clearly processing that connection.

Which of your brothers is Pinky dating?”
“Eshan. The prosecutor
Before he could respond, his phone rang.
Cupid turned toward it, answering when he saw Desmond’s name.
“Yes?”
A brief silence followed. I leaned closer, until Cupid lowered the phone and looked at me.
“I think you’re late.”
My breath stalled.
“Late? H…how?”
“The case was reopened overnight. Marlik is already on his way to court. H.O.W.L. staff too.”
Fothes
Cold rushed through me, sharp and paralyzing. My phone would be exploding by now. I have turned it off last night. I forced myself to stay calm, looking away as I whispered.
“I need to call Dove. Let me borrow your phone.”
“Stop here, that’s her!” I said urgently when Dove’s car came into view by the roadside.
Cupid parked behind her. I leaned out the window.
“Dove! Over here!”
Her door flew open and she rushed out, clearly ready to yell, until she saw Cupid’s car. She slowed instantly.
Quietly, she approached the window, lowering her head. Her eyes weren’t on me. They were fixed on the man beside me. Slowly, she looked at me instead, her gaze asking a single question.
Seriously?
“Did you bring the clothes?” I asked, snapping her out of it. She nodded. “Get in the back.”
She obeyed, sliding into the rear seat, her eyes still stealing glances at Cupid who remained silent, staring straight ahead. I moved to the back as well, opening the bag she brought.
I have called her before Cupid and I left his loft.
I ask as I began changing.
“Did any of my brothers call?”
When she didn’t answer, I nudged her. She finally looked away from Cupid.
Chapter 499
“Uh… yeah. Eshan called. I told him you were still sleeping. He disconnected immediately. I don’t think he
believed me.”
“You should’ve used another excuse. They know I don’t sleep much.”
