I raced up the stairs, Desmond right behind me. I reached Yasmin’s bedroom door just in time to see her thrashing.

Marlik was trying to hold her down, arms gentle but firm, voice low and soothing but every time his hands touched her, she shoved him away with surprising strength.

She broke free in one violent twist and scrambled to the edge of the open window, breath shaking, body trembling on the very brink.
