Snowflakes

I heard the low rumble of a car pulling up outside my garage. Minutes later, the front door gave way quietly, almost reverently. Then his energy flooded the living room. Warm, commanding, familiar.
Tenderly, I fluttered my eyelids open, drifting up from the haze of exhaustion to see Cupid walking toward me. Concern etched his features, but so did tenderness, soft, unguarded.
“Snow?” he called quietly, crossing the room to sit beside me on the couch. His gaze searched my face. “Snow, you alright? I’ve been calling. No answer.”
I didn’t have the strength to respond right away. Without a word, he reached out and caressed my cheek, slow, gentle thumb tracing my skin.
“What’s wrong? Hmm?”
“Just tired,” I murmured softly, forcing my eyes open wider to search his.
He looked genuinely worried, and that concern only reminded me how long it had been since we’d last made love, since I’d felt him inside me, anchoring me.
He leaned in as though reading the same thought. His lips brushed mine, soft at first, then deeper, drowning me back toward slumber while soothing every frayed nerve.
Without breaking the kiss, he reached for my heels, slipping them off one by one.
His palms slid up my calves, warm and deliberate, caressing my thighs as I curled tighter on the couch, head resting against the armrest.
“Should I run you a bath? Have you eaten anything? It’s already night.”
I sighed softly and shook my head. His worry deepened. He pressed the back of his hand to my temple, then drew back to study me again.
“How about I make you dinner? What would you like?”
I didn’t answer. Instead, I lowered my gaze and curled my legs in tighter, trying to quell the sudden ache
blooming low in my belly. His heat was everywhere, too close, too tempting and I could do so little to fight
Cupid seemed to sense the struggle. Tenderly, his palm drifted to my breast. I sighed as he lifted the hem of my blouse, sliding his hand beneath to cup me fully. Cold shivers raced across my skin; my toes curled instinctively. God, how much I’d missed him, missed this.
He leaned in again, kissing me tenderly, then deeper, his thumb brushing my nipple in slow, deliberate circles until arousal coiled tight inside me. I swallowed hard, then gave in, pulling myself into his arms. surrendering completely.
After a while, I broke the kiss and simply leaned against him. head on his chest, breathing him in, soaking up his strength. His arms wrapped around me without a word; we stayed like that, lost in each other’s

quiet.
“I was so worried about you,” he murmured into my hair.
“I’m just exhausted,” I mumbled against his chest.
“Let’s get you to bed then. You’ve been curled up here for hours, it’ll cramp your body.”
His palm was still gently patting my arm when he suddenly stiffened, just as I did. Slowly, I pulled back to search his eyes.
He’d said I’d been curled up here for hours.
How did he know?
When our gazes locked, realization flickered across his face. He’d slipped. My throat tightened. There were cameras in this house. He’d been watching me.
Without a word, I eased out of his arms and walked slowly toward the bedroom. I flopped onto the bed, heart squeezing painfully.
I didn’t know what to feel anymore. It was as though I were terrified that another truth would surface and I’d have no strength left to carry it.
A few seconds later, I heard his footsteps. He came to the bedside, dropped to one knee, and gently took my hand, pressing a soft kiss to my knuckles before holding it.
“I… I can take them down if you want,” he said quietly.
I searched his eyes. For a brief moment, I wondered why he’d installed cameras at all, then reasoned they might have been here before I ever moved in.
