"Noooo!" Princess Kira gasped. "They did not?!"
Having traded places with Kyle so he could return to the stands and make sure his little star still had someone cheering him on while everyone else dealt with the compromised master mechanics, the Orchish Princess had somehow become Izzie’s most enthusiastic audience member.
Anyone who didn’t know better would’ve thought she was listening to the scandal of the century.
Noah watched the exchange for a moment before finally asking, "...You actually understand all that?"
Princess Kira immediately straightened with the confidence of someone who’d just been deeply insulted.
"Of course I understand!" she declared. "How could it not be obvious that those nincompoops are plotting a crime so atrocious that my Bunbun would never be allowed outside without sunglasses again? Just look at her! She’s warning us with everything she has!"
She gestured dramatically toward the tiny queen, who puffed herself up before launching into another series of emotional wiggles.
Noah quietly looked around at everyone else, hoping to confirm that he wasn’t the only person completely incapable of deciphering what appeared to be some sort of impassioned interpretive dance.
Unfortunately, that hope didn’t last very long.
His gaze shifted toward the currently unsupervised Luca, whose husband had become temporarily occupied with his terminal while informing Marshal Julian about the latest developments involving the compromised masters.
Noah caught just enough of the conversation Luca was having with Jax to immediately conclude that it was one discussion he wanted absolutely no part of.
Not because it was particularly difficult to understand, but because the two of them were discussing topics that were admittedly rather shameless with completely straight faces.
Like how they couldn’t possibly imagine professing their undying love to anyone other than the ones they already hold dear.
Luca, wearing an expression so solemn one would’ve thought he was taking an oath before the heavens themselves, looked Jax right in the eye.
"If I ever start showing romantic affection toward anyone other than my husband," he declared with complete sincerity, "strike me down immediately."
He wasn’t joking.
Not even a little.
The short but stern chipmunk looked genuinely determined to leave behind advance instructions just in case that terrifying skill somehow managed to possess him one day.
Noah wasn’t quite sure about what he’d do with such a statement or if any of them would even be able to realistically strike down one Luca Kyros.
But even so, he wanted to see what Jax would say to this.
Unfortunately, the redhead didn’t find any part of it strange either.
