Positioning himself more comfortably on the bed, Xavier shifted closer before reaching out to lightly tap one finger against the frame of his beloved’s specialized glasses.
"I am a little worried, though."
"Hm?"
Naturally, that was more than enough to get the already skittish little guide’s attention.
Luca immediately turned toward him, his brows furrowing with concern as he wondered what could possibly be wrong. Yet instead of answering right away, Xavier merely studied his face for a moment before letting out a quiet sigh.
"I suppose I’ll have to prepare myself."
"Prepare for what?"
"For my wife getting stolen."
"!"
Golden eyes widened behind those lenses.
Xavier, meanwhile, looked almost wistful as he continued, "You already look far too delectable wearing those. If you start walking around like this all the time, wouldn’t the number of flies trying to approach you increase?"
"Ehh?!"
"And if you’re always wearing them, when am I supposed to properly admire those lovely eyes up close?"
The spooked critter stared at him in complete disbelief.
How had they suddenly gotten there?!
"B-but that’s impossible!" he protested, immediately reaching up to touch the glasses. "They’re just eyeglasses! How could wearing them change anything that much?"
He genuinely couldn’t understand how a simple pair of glasses could somehow cause such a drastic difference that his husband would actually be worried about him getting stolen.
If anything, Luca thought they were useful!
"Besides, isn’t it better this way?" he asked earnestly. "If I wear them, then we can look straight at each other without having to worry."
Xavier went quiet.
Then his eyes narrowed ever so slightly.
Apparently, his little wife needed a practical demonstration.
Without giving him much time to react, Xavier reached forward, carefully slipped the glasses right off Luca’s face, and put them on himself.
"!"
The golden-eyed cadet immediately squeezed his eyes shut.
His hands even rose as though he needed to physically defend Xavier from his gaze.
"W-wait! Husband!"
"Yes?"
"Don’t look at me!"
The Prince’s lips twitched.
"Why not?"
"What if I accidentally lose control?!"
"There’s that possibility," he conceded calmly. "But I’m wearing the glasses now."
Luca froze.
Right.
Technically speaking, if his husband was wearing them, then wouldn’t he be protected from the Luxastra ability, much like everyone else was whenever the dungeon owner wore them himself?
"You can look," Xavier murmured, though the little chipmunk still hesitated.
Then, very cautiously, one golden eye cracked open.
His second followed shortly afterward.
And just like that, whatever argument Luca had been preparing immediately disappeared from his brain.
"!"
Oh.
Oh no.
His husband was wearing glasses.
For some completely inexplicable reason, it was as though Xavier’s entire demeanor had shifted the moment those frames settled onto his face. The already ridiculously handsome Imperial Crown Prince suddenly looked even sharper, more refined, and somehow considerably more lethal to Luca’s already questionable ability to think whenever his husband was involved.
To think the man wasn’t even doing much other than exist!
Heat rushed straight to his face, his blood suddenly pounding so hard that he could practically hear it rushing in his ears.
How could putting on one pair of glasses suddenly make someone look like that?!
"H-husband."
That was bad too!
