The Royal Military Academy's Impostor Owns a Dungeon [BL] novel Chapter 872

Chapter 872: When the Body Remains

Likely nothing.

They would have been just like everyone else, utterly incapable of doing anything about the cadet who began glowing the moment his husband started to wake.

Yes. On top of all things, there was that, too.

While somewhere across the Empire, people were discovering brand new emotional entanglements, arguing over ranking systems, drafting excessively detailed reports about matters that would very likely reshape history, surviving the onslaught of tiny humans, and barely enduring the call of their own hearts’ desires, someone else finally stirred.

Xavier’s eyes opened unexpectedly.

Unlike the others, who drifted back to consciousness slowly as if being gently guided awake, the prince surfaced sharply. He moved like a man who had somewhere urgent to be, which immediately startled everyone who had been waiting nearby.

"...Xavier?"

"What’s wrong?" Duchess Amelia asked, lifting a hand to stop the others from rushing forward when Xavier barely acknowledged them at all. He sat up at once, eyes already locked onto Luca.

"I couldn’t follow him."

The words were muttered more to himself than anyone else.

Xavier stared ahead with a contemplative expression, disbelief etched clearly across his face. There was also faint distress. And irritation. The kind that suggested he himself couldn’t quite accept what had happened.

As if he genuinely couldn’t believe he had failed. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

They weren’t particularly damning words. But paired with that unblinking stare, one Duke thought the words sounded ominous.

Duke Leander’s heart skipped.

But just before the worried father could open his mouth to ask what exactly his wolfish son-in-law meant by that, the universe decided to distract him.

For without warning, their precious son was engulfed in light.

"!!!"

And it took everything for the mortified father not to pass out.

Thankfully, no one needed to rush off to summon the elders as they came running back on their own after feeling a surge of strong spiritual energy.

Though in hindsight, calling it a surge was not quite accurate. While it would have felt like that to most people, it wasn’t like there was an actual movement of spiritual energy.

There really wasn’t. In fact, after reaching the scene, the elders managed to confirm that it really was a lot more like peeling back restrictions, suddenly allowing for more spiritual energy to be revealed.

But the shock of it understandably felt like a sudden surge.

But while that part didn’t catch the elders off guard, what got them all gawking was the fact that it was coming from their Young Lord Luca.

"?!"

Even the elders paused.

This, frankly, did not inspire confidence in anyone watching them.

Elder Wei tilted his head slightly, eyes narrowed as he studied the sight of their lord encased in light while the others around him were in various states of distress.

Was this supposed to happen after using the petals of the Queen of the Night?

Judging by the identical expressions of bafflement on the other elders’ faces, the answer was no.

So then what exactly had happened here?

And how come out of everyone present, only the prince didn’t particularly look surprised?

While the Duke had always reacted colorfully when it came to his son, this time around, Xavier understood it far too well.

Luca’s soul had already wandered once before. It had taken years, relentless searching, and a chain of events that still left scars for him to return. To hear that his son had once again left his body would gut anyone who had lived through that history.

And this time, Duke Leander was not alone.

From Butler Gary to Marshal Julian, faces hardened with unmistakable alarm. The Taylors, witnessing such reactions from people known for their unshakable composure, felt their own hearts lurch in their chests even when they had no idea just what this was all about.

But when those with intense mental fortitude looked like this, it was definitely not a situation to take lightly.

"But if it was like earlier," Xavier continued carefully, "then Luca should still be around here. Exploring the dungeon space as we did before."

"Huh?"

Duke Leander leaned forward so abruptly it nearly toppled the chair.

He liked that word.

Here.

It meant close. It meant not lost.

"Is he safe?" he demanded, the questions tumbling out faster than he could restrain them. "How did you get back? Would he be able to get back too?"

The room held its breath.

And the prince really wanted to answer.

It was just that Xavier had no idea how to even begin explaining things.

Reading History

No history.
