Chapter 62: Sticking Around

Deidra’s P.O.V.

I blinked.

He was still there.

I shook my head and rubbed my eyes.

Still there.

All I could do was stare at him, confused, shocked, overjoyed, and so not trusting myself to open

my mouth. For a moment, Brixton just stared right back at me. But his eyes held meaning. Something deep. Something I was too afraid to voice, but so thrilled to see. And then he finally

broke the silence.

“Come on,” he said as he stood up straight and held his hand out to me. “Come sit and get warm,

and I’ll let this slide.”

That sparked a fire in me.

“Let what slide exactly?” I asked, crossing my arms and frowning at him.

Does he mean because I left without saying anything? Because I tried to. He didn’t want to listen.

“That you thought someone broke in and, instead of calling me or the police, you investigated yourself,” he replied. “In only your damn robe too. With nothing to use as a weapon either. You’re supposed to be smarter than that.”

I wanted to be upset about that, to argue, but I couldn’t. Because it was stupid of me. I should have

definitely called the police instead of investigating. even said to myself that I should have called

Brixton. And I also loved the way he cared about me.

“Let me go get my phone,” I mumbled as I turned around and started walking down the hall.

I stepped into the bathroom and grabbed my phone off the counter. I turned off the music and

blew out a breath. Then I grabbed the bottle of Jack off the ground and turned around. All to jump back nearly a whole foot when I noticed Brixton right behind me. His eyes were cast down at the bottle in my hand.

“You don’t need that,” he said, forcing his eyes to mine, his jaw ticking.

“There’s less than half a bottle left,” I argued. “I’ll be fine.”

Brix furrowed his brow, looking annoyed and far too se.xy.

“You’ve already been drinking?” he asked incredulously. Sh.it, was I slurring? “I leave you alone for like two fu.cking hours, and you get drunk?” My face flamed with embarrassment. “This is exactly why I didn’t want you to be alone,” he ranted. “Why are you even drinking? When did you get this? How much have you had?”

For a moment, I just blinked at him. Then I sputtered out laughter until I was holding my belly and there were tears in my eyes. I couldn’t help it. He sounded like… like a dad. Brixton Jinx Roth is scolding me. How hilarious.

“Why are you laughing like that?” He asked, his voice and face much softer now.

“Sorry,” I said, waving my hand between us as I tried to stop.

“Nah, don’t apologize,” he replied, snaking an arm around my waist. “And don’t stop. I love it when you laugh.”

I let him pull me against his chest, my hands falling flat on his cut. I stared into his eyes as my laughter finally died down. He was smiling at me with that same goofy smile that he always gives

“Can’t believe that you’re scolding me for drinking,” finally told him.

“I wasn’t scolding you,” he argued. “I’m just concerned. If that bottle was full before you started… that’s a lot. I want to know so that I know how to take care of you.”

That warmed my insides.

“Brix… what are you even doing here?” I asked, my voice quiet.

“You didn’t actually think I was going to let you run away, did you?” he asked me.

“I-I wasn’t running,” I argued, my face flaming. “W-we just don’t need to spend every night together.”

“Oh, I disagree,” he replied as he reached up to tuck my hair behind my ear, his fingers lingering
