The Sovereign Chronicles novel Chapter 29

Lyra hadn't spent the last five days in secluded cultivation; her Master had granted her a rare leave of absence to rest.

Except for her own meditation, she spent nearly all her time at Kaelen's place. She wasn't relaxing; she was helping him train.

She was worried Kaelen wouldn't be able to control The Titan's Vigor, especially the fifth phase, Titan's Vigor: Unbound Force. Producing an explosive output five times his normal limit would subject his body to thousands of pounds of kinetic recoil. It was a double-edged sword that could cripple him. Throughout the Sanctum’s history, many Initiates who boasted formidable physiques had attempted The Titan's Vigor, only to end up permanently maimed. For decades, only the Prime Initiate Darian had mastered it. Since then, almost no one dared touch the codex.

Fortunately, Kaelen's performance over the past few days had been nothing short of spectacular, easing her fears. She was genuinely astounded by his physical resilience. Forget five times the burst; it looked like his body could handle six times the kinetic force without shattering.

Junior Celine dropped by occasionally as well, equally stunned by Kaelen's terrifying progress.

"This is the place?" Cassian arrived at the base of the small, hundred-meter hill. Compared to the towering, thousand-meter peaks that defined the Sanctum, this mound looked like a pile of dirt. It was entirely unremarkable. If you didn't look closely, it blended seamlessly into the base of the larger mountains.

*To monopolize an entire peak within the Sanctum, this Initiate must hold significant authority,* Cassian thought to himself.

"This is it. After you, Lord Cassian." Jaden sneered inwardly, maintaining an obsequious smile as he led them up the winding path to the summit.

"What is this Initiate's rank? Is he a Gold-Crest Paragon?" Cassian was beginning to take this unseen rival seriously.

"He's a Servitor."

"A Servitor?"

"A grunt who does the heavy lifting."

"Are you attempting to mock me?" Cassian rarely joked, and despised being the butt of one.

"I wouldn't dare! The peak isn't a private villa; it's a storage warehouse. This particular Initiate has been a Servitor since he was seven. He's been doing menial labor for eight straight years."

"And Lyra would be here?" Cassian’s brow furrowed in deep disgust. *With a peasant?*

"See for yourself. Oh, and his name is Kaelen!"

Inside the courtyard, Kaelen had just completed a cycle of the fifth phase of The Titan's Vigor. A massive boulder he had dragged up the hill was now pulverized into gravel, dust hanging thick in the air. He stood at the edge of the rubble, his entire body radiating intense heat. His skin was flush, looking almost boiled, radiating terrifying waves of steam that vaporized his sweat instantly. He was gasping for air, his perfectly sculpted, lean muscles contracting rhythmically with the violent heaving of his chest. Though only fifteen, he exuded the raw, masculine power of a seasoned warrior in his twenties.

"How does it feel? Is the backlash still paralyzing?" Lyra held a silk cloth, gently wiping the sweat from his brow.

"It's better this time... At least my legs didn't give out..." Kaelen leaned forward, his vision swimming, consciousness blurring slightly. The fifth phase was devastating. The instantaneous burst delivered four to five thousand pounds of pure kinetic destruction, but that split-second detonation drained every ounce of stamina from his cells, leaving behind a crushing wave of exhaustion.

"You're doing incredibly well." Lyra had originally estimated that if Kaelen could grasp the fifth phase ten days before the tournament, it would be a triumph. She never imagined he would master it eighteen days early and was already adapting to the terrifying recoil.

Kaelen drew a deep breath, letting it out slowly. "I can push the force even higher."

"You've already exceeded expectations..." Lyra suddenly paused. *Did someone just arrive?*

Who would be visiting this place at this hour?

Her heightened senses detected multiple presences outside the iron gates, and their aether signatures were formidable. Her eyes turned cold as she slipped on her veil and stepped protectively in front of Kaelen.

Jaden stopped at the iron gates, listened for a moment, smiled maliciously to himself, and shoved the heavy doors open. The first thing he saw was Kaelen, shirtless, skin glowing red, panting heavily. The second thing he saw was Lyra, standing silently by his side.

Cassian’s gaze swept dismissively past the exhausted Kaelen, locking entirely onto Lyra.

*Is that her?*

*This is the Azure Sky Sanctum's Gold-Crest Paragon, Lyra?*

*The woman who might become my wife.*

Her face was obscured by a sheer veil, but her figure was an absolute masterpiece of curves and grace. Her eyes shimmered like autumn waters. Even from this angle, she seemed to emit a faint, ethereal glow, exuding an untouchable, transcendent nobility. Even without seeing her full face, her mere presence and bearing instantly seized Cassian’s total attention. His heart skipped a beat, and a hungry smile spread across his face. *Perfect. Absolutely perfect.*

But what was the deal with the man? Half-naked, wearing only a pair of training shorts, looking like a complete savage!

For a woman of her supreme standing to be alone with a man in such a state!

Was she truly as 'pure' as they claimed?

"Lady Lyra, we finally meet." Cassian plastered on his most charming smile and strolled into the courtyard.

He cleared his throat, preparing to deliver a practiced, flattering introduction, but Lyra cut him off with icy detachment. "I am not receiving guests today. You may leave."

"You likely do not recognize me yet. Allow me the honor of introducing myself."

"Unnecessary. Please leave." Lyra dismissed him coldly. She recognized they were outsiders but didn't care.

Had anyone else spoken to him like that, Cassian would have already drawn blood. But today, he was in a surprisingly forgiving mood. He chuckled, "Lady Lyra, I assure you I have no ill intentions. I simply wish to make a friend."

Every Dominion Guard drew their steel, pointing their blades directly at Kaelen.

Lyra's voice dropped to absolute zero as she stepped fully in front of Kaelen, confronting Cassian. "Lord Cassian, mind your tongue. I will ask you one final time. Get out of here!"

Cassian acted as if he hadn't heard her, completely dismissing Kaelen as a non-threat. He smiled and continued his pursuit. "I traveled a very long way just for you, Lady Lyra. Do I have the supreme honor of inviting you for a walk to admire the Sanctum’s scenery?"

Jaden threw fuel on the fire. "Servitor Kaelen, step down immediately! Do not ruin Lord Cassian and Lady Lyra’s private time."

Kaelen sneered. "Self-awareness is a rare commodity. It's a shame none of you seem to possess it."

Cassian gestured lazily to his men. "Someone discipline Lady Lyra’s pet for her."

"Yes, My Lord!" The Guards barked their compliance. But just as they stepped forward, the iron gates behind them were violently thrown open. A wave of bone-chilling frost swept into the courtyard. "Who dares bare steel within the Azure Sky Sanctum!"

Cassian turned around, a furious retort on his lips. But the moment his eyes landed on the intruder, the words died in his throat. He was completely paralyzed.

A woman of peerless beauty stepped into the courtyard, wreathed in freezing mist, radiating an aura of untouchable, celestial purity. Like a lotus rising from a frozen lake, she was utterly untainted by the mortal world. Though she wore a pale, sheer veil, it could not hide the breathtaking, delicate perfection of her features. She looked so utterly detached from reality, completely devoid of mortal flaws.

Her long, cascading hair fell gracefully over a snow-white gown. The strands were incredibly soft and fine, shimmering with a deep, obsidian luster that demanded attention.

She was elegant, regal, and radiated a freezing, yet undeniably graceful, aura.

Moments ago, Lyra had been the sole, blinding star in the courtyard. Now, two absolute goddesses stood in defiance, rendering everything else in the world dull and gray by comparison.

Cassian stood there, slack-jawed. His veteran Guards were equally awestruck, their aggressive, murderous intent evaporating instantly in the face of such overwhelming beauty.

If Lyra was the vibrant, intoxicating tulip of a magical grove, the woman standing before them was the legendary snow lotus blooming atop an unreachable glacier. Two vastly different auras, both beautiful enough to bring empires to their knees.

"Linnea?" Jaden stared in utter disbelief, thinking his eyes were playing tricks on him.

The Prime Initiate of Mount Veridia, Linnea? What in the blazing hells was she doing here?!

Lyra, Linnea, and Nerida. The three Celestial Maidens were incredibly enigmatic, rarely showing their faces in public. Lyra and Linnea were most frequently compared; not only were their beauty and auras equally devastating, but their talent and political standing within the sect were nearly identical. Though Linnea wasn't a Gold-Crest Paragon, she was a Veridian Acolyte—and the only disciple the ruling Elder of Mount Veridia had accepted in years. Her status was easily on par with Lyra's.

It wasn't just Jaden who was stunned. Both Kaelen and Lyra were caught completely off guard. Why was she here?
