Chapter 183
The phone hit the concrete with a sharp crack, the sound echoing through the alley like a gunshot. The kidnapper, stared at the shattered device as if it held the last remnants of his sanity.
“Emma,” he whispered, his voice breaking on the name. “nma, daddy’s here…”
But the line was dead, the phone’s screen dark and fracture across the dirty pavement.
Mia kept the gun steady, watching the man crumble before her eyes. Twenty minutes ago, she might have felt pity. Now, she felt nothing but the sharp edge of calculated ury.
“Your daughter has leukemia for years now,” she said, her voice clinical. “Stage three. The experimental treatment at Tress Medical costs four hundred thousand dollars per cycle. Your insurance won’t cover it.”
Marcus’s head snapped up, eyes wide with something between terror and desperate hope. “How do you…”
“Know everything about you? Because I’m not the naive lite princess everyone thinks I am.” Mia took a step closer, the gun never wavering. “Grey Chen. Divorced father Electrician by trade until you got mixed up with my father’s dirty work. You took his job four years ago because he promised to pay for Emma’s treatment, and you’ve been doing his shady business for him since.”
The man’s shoulders sagged, all fight draining out of him. She’s only twelve years old.”
“And now she’s leverage.” Mia’s smile could have frozen hellfire. “You see, Grey, you made a critical error. You assumed I was the weak link in this equation. But you know what I realized standing here, listening to you describe how my father murdered my mother?”
She crouched down, bringing herself to his eye level while maintaining perfect control of the weapon.
“I realized that being Samuel Meyer’s daughter means I inherited more than just his money. I inherited his instincts. His ruthlessness. The only difference is, I choose to use mine to protect the people I love instead of destroying them.”
Marcus’s phone buzzed against the concrete, somehow still functioning despite the cracked screen. Mia glanced down and saw a text message notification.
“Pick it up,” she ordered.
With trembling hands, Marcus retrieved the phone. The message was from an unknown number, but Mia could see the preview:
*Your daughter is asking for you. She’s scared. Make the right choice.*
“My husband has Emma now,” Mia said conversationally. Safe, comfortable, receiving the best medical care money can buy. But her continued wellbeing depends entirely on what you do in the next five minutes.”
“You’re blackmailing me with my own daughter?” Marcus voice cracked with disbelief.
“I’m giving you a choice my father never offered my mothe,” Mia replied coldly. “Cooperate, and Emma gets her treatment. All of it, paid in full. Have you ever wondered why the doctors keeps making her treatment last longer? With all the money samuel is paying the hospital why hasnt been cured all these years?”
The kidnapper looked at Mia confused, trying to get her point.
“Because he still wants you to do all his dirty works, when He has finished using you he’ll end you same way ended Chris ” he shot his eyes immediately. Mia nodded he head at him.
“You’re lieing.” Mia let out a dangerous laugh.
“Samuel killed your brother. You can kill me, or join me to destroy him together. Your choice.”
The transformation in the man was immediate. The desperate criminal facade cracked completely, revealing a terrified father and a mourning brother.
“What do you want me to do?”
“First, you’re going to tell me exactly where my aunt is being held and who’s guarding her.” Mia straightened but kept the gun trained on him. “Then you’re going to call my father and tell him the plan worked perfectly. That I’m dead, and you have the files.”
“But….”
“But nothing. You’re going to buy me time while I go get my aunt. And when this is over, when my father is in prison where he belongs, Emma will have the best oncology team in the country.”
Grey stared at her for a long moment, seeing something in her face that made him shiver.
