Chapter 185
Mia turned to see Stefan taking long strides toward her, his face a mixture of relief and pride. Without hesitation, he wrapped her in a tight embrace, holding her as if he’d feared he might never see her again.
“You were amazing in there,” he said when he finally pulled back to look at her face.
“Thank you for trusting me,” Mia replied, her voice thick with emotion. The weight of everything they’d accomplished together settled between them.
“I trust you with my life, love,” Stefan said softly, placing a kiss to her forehead before taking her hands. Together, they walked toward his car, fingers intertwined.
As they drove toward their penthouse, Mia’s phone rang. Detective Martinez’s voice filled the car through the speaker.
“Mrs. Meyer, we’re moving on the warehouse now. Grey is inside with your father, and we have confirmation that your aunt is in the building.”
Mia gripped Stefan’s hand tighter. “Is she safe?”
“We’re about to find out. Stay on the line.”
Through the phone, they could hear the distant sounds of the operation unfolding. The crackle of police radios, shouted commands, and the sound of boots on concrete echoed through the speaker.
“This is Martinez,” they heard the detective say to her team “All units, we have confirmation that Samuel Meyer is inside the building. Rodriguez and Kim are in custody. Ghost is still unaccounted for.”
Stefan pulled into their penthouse garage, but neither of them moved to get out. They sat in the car, listening to the raid unfold.
“Team two, second floor clear. We have eyes on the elderly woman. She’s alive but injured.”
“That’s Aunt Mira,” Mia whispered, her eyes filling with tears.
“Team leader to all units,” Martinez’s voice continued. “We have Samuel Meyer and Grey Chen in the main warehouse floor. Moving to apprehend.”
What happened next would be talked about for months in police circles. Samuel Meyer, who had always prided himself on being untouchable, was caught completely off guard.
Grey had been wearing a wire, and for twenty minutes, Samuel had confessed to crimes spanning two decades.
“You should have seen him,” Detective Martinez would later tell Mia and Stefan. “The great Samuel Meyer, standing in that warehouse, bragging about how he’d killed your mother. How he’d made it look like an accident. He was so proud of himself, so confident that he was in control.”
In the warehouse, Samuel had been gloating about his perfectly executed plan. “Twenty years,” he had told Grey,” and no one ever suspected. The brake lines were cut so precisely that even the best investigators couldn’t prove it wasn’t mechanical failure.”
“But why kill Mia now?” Grey had asked, following the script Detective Martinez had given him.
“Because she’s getting too close to Ethan, trying to turn my son against me. Too curious. Just like her mother was. “Samuel’s voice had turned cold.
“Mary started asking questions about my business dealings. She found out about the money I was moving through offshore accounts and that I had a son. She was going to leave me and take Mia with her, with the family business.”
“So you killed her.”
“I eliminated a problem. Just like I’m eliminating problems now.” Samuel had gestured around the warehouse.” After tonight, there will be no loose ends. Mia is dead, Mira will be dead, and you’ll disappear just like your brother Chris did.”
He brought out a gun to murder Gray, that’s when the police had moved in.
“Samuel Meyer, you are under arrest for the murders of Cassandra and Mary Meyer and Chris Chen, conspiracy to commit murder, and numerous other charges,” Martinez had announced as officers surrounded him.
The look on Samuel’s face when he realized he’d been trapped was something Grey would never forget. The man who had controlled so many lives through fear and manipulation suddenly looked small and pathetic.
“This is impossible,” Samuel had sputtered as handcuffs were placed on his wrists. “You have nothing. This is all circumstantial.”
“Actually, Mr. Meyer,” Detective Martinez had replied, “we have everything. Your entire confession was recorded. We have financial records of all your embezzlement. We have testimony from multiple witnesses. And we have your daughter, who’s very much alive and ready to testify against you.”
“I know.” Elena tightened her grip on her lover. “But it’s over now. He can never hurt anyone again.” She held him
close.
Three months later, the courthouse was packed. Media crews lined the street outside, and security was tight. The trial of Samuel Meyer had captured national attention, not just for the shocking nature of his crimes, but for the daughter who had brought him down.
Mia sat in the front row of the courtroom, Stefan beside her his hand resting protectively on her growing belly. At six months pregnant, she was showing now, and the irony wasn’t lost on anyone that Samuel would become a grandfather from behind prison bars.
“The prosecution calls Mrs. Mia Meyer Sterling to the stand” the district attorney announced.
The courtroom fell silent as Mia rose from her seat. Every eye in the room followed her as she walked to the witness stand, her back straight, her chin held high. She was no longer the broken woman from that empty container three months ago, nor was she the naive daughter who had once believed in her father’s love.
She was something new entirely.
As she placed her hand on the Bible and swore to tell the truth, Mia’s eyes found her father’s across the courtroom. Samuel sat at the defendant’s table, his expensive suit replaced by prison orange, his carefully maintained facade finally stripped away.
For a moment, their eyes met, and Mia saw something she had never seen before in Samuel Meyer’s face: fear.
He was afraid of her. Afraid of what she knew, what she had become, what she was about to say.
“Please Tate your name for the record,” the prosecutor said.
Mia turned away from her father and faced the jury, twelve ordinary people who would decide whether justice would finally be served.
“My name is Mia Meyer Sterling” she said, her voice clear and strong. “And I’m here to tell you the truth about the man who murdered my mother.”
The courtroom remained silent, hanging on every word, as the daughter of Samuel Meyer prepared to destroy him completely.
