Chapter 33
Moments later, two black SUVS pulled up, Mose’s reinforcements. Without saying a word, he strode over to Ethan’s side and gently lifted Elena into his arms. In a protective and possessive manner.
“She’ll be safe now,” he muttered, voice gruff with emotion.
He placed her carefully into the waiting car, he turned toward his men, voice low but commanding. “Escort Ethan back to the party. The rest of you…” his gaze shifted to the groaning kidnappers on the ground, “you know what to do.”
He didn’t need to say it aloud, his men understood. Those three would be taken to the place where screams were silenced by concrete walls and loyalty was forged in pain. A place where mercy doesn’t exist.
Without another word, Mose slid into the Maybach and sped off into the night, the engine growling like the fury boiling inside him. He took Elena straight to Stefan’s penthouse.
There, Stefan’s trusted doctor was already waiting. Stefan had made sure of that. As Mose carried her in, the doctor quickly prepared the medical room. Mose laid her gently on the bed, his eyes never leaving her pale face.
Then, with fingers slightly trembling, he pulled out his phone and sent a text.
“She’s safe.”
Stefan’s phone buzzed.
He and Mia were still at the venue, he was standing beside Mia, never left her side. She tried hiding just how much she hated these events, they were filled with fake smiles and shallow conversations. But he saw right through her.
He glanced at the screen and immediately leaned close to whisper, “Let’s go.”
Mia didn’t hesitate, she was exhausted and emotionally drained. They said brief goodbyes and stepped out into the night.
At home, Stefan didn’t lead her to either of their rooms. Instead, he took a sharp turn down a different hallway.
Mia furrowed her brows. “Where are we going?” she asked, but he didn’t answer.
When he pushed the door open, her confusion only deepened. Her eyes landed on Mose, sitting quietly on a bench, his elbows resting on his knees, face buried in his palms.
And then her gaze shifted to the bed. A figure lay there unmoving, hooked to IV drips.
Her breath hitched. “Elena?” Stefan gave her a slight nod, motioning her forward.
She took a step, then another. Then the weight of the moment slammed into her, and her knees buckled. Stefan caught her just in time, holding her against his chest.

When she regained her footing, she rushed to the bedside, her hand brushing Elena’s arm gently. Mose stood immediately, giving her the seat.
“What happened?” Mia asked, voice barely above a whisper.
“She was kidnapped,” Stefan answered for him, keeping his tone even. “Mose got to her just in time.”
“The doctor said she’s stable now. They gave her something to counter the drugs.” Mose explained more
Mia’s breath escaped in a shudder, relief and anger warred in her chest. She stood up suddenly and walked out without another word, Stefan followed.
She paced down the hallway, then halted abruptly and spun to face him, her eyes burned with betrayal.
She struck his chest with her fist. “Why didn’t you tell me she was kidnapped? I deserve to know!”
Stefan’s expression softened, his voice calm. “Because I didn’t want you to worry.”
Her voice cracked. “Who are you to decide when I should or shouldn’t worry?”
He sighed. “Mia, we had to tread carefully. This reaction…..” he gestured at her trembling form, “this is what they want. They want to rattle you. I didn’t want to give them the satisfaction.”
Tears spilled down her cheeks. “What’s the point of winning this war if I lose the only person who’s ever truly been there for me?” Silence fell between them.
Stefan stepped closer, unsure what to do. Comforting wasn’t his strength, but in that moment, instinct took
over.
He reached out and gently guided her head to his shoulder, just like his mother used to do when he was a child. One hand rested on her back, patting softly in a reassuring way.
“I promise… nothing will happen to her,” he whispered. And that was all it took, to make her brake.
She let everything out, fear, pain, and guilt, collapsing into the one place that felt safe right now, his arms.
They stayed like that for what felt like hours, the quiet room echoing with a silent vow neither of them would ever take lightly again.
Stefan looked at Mia, concern flickering in his eyes. “You should go change,” he said softly.
But Mia shook her head stubbornly. “I want to stay with Elena.”
He didn’t argue, he knew better than to try. Instead, he simply walked back into the room with her.
Inside, Mose still stood by the bed, quiet and composed, his presence like a silent shadow.
“You can go change,” Stefan said, his voice calm but firm. “Mia will take care of her.”
Mose nodded, ready to leave, but then Mia turned to him. For the first time this night, she really looked at him.
His clothes bore faint traces of blood, subtle, but undeniable. Proof of the violence he had walked through to bring Elena back. Her eyes dropped to his hands, still stained, dark and crusted at the edges.

Without thinking, she walked up to him and gently took his hand in hers. Mose stiffened, his instincts screamed at him to react. To disarm, to strike. Years of training didn’t recognize soft gestures. His body tensed, ready to flip her over his shoulder if need be.
But he stopped himself, this was Mia, she meant no harm.
When she felt the tension in his hand, she quickly let go, a bit startled. “I just…” she began, voice low. “I really can’t thank you enough for what you did. I’m grateful.”
Mose met her gaze for a second before giving a small, respectful nod. “It was nothing,” he replied quietly. “It’s what Stefan would have wanted me to do.”
When Mose had first heard about Stefan’s deal with Mia, he didn’t trust her. Not one bit. He’d pegged her as just another spoiled heiress who’d eventually crawl back to her father, or worse, one who had been in on it from the beginning.
But over time, his perception changed. She was nothing like her father. She was headstrong, yes. Stubborn beyond belief. But she had heart. He saw it in the way she treated Elena, not like help, not like someone beneath her, but like family. There was kindness in her, confidence too. And maybe, just maybe, she could thaw the ice Stefan had built around his soul.
He gave her a small bow before turning and quietly exiting the room.
Mose returned after some minutes, cleaned up and dressed in a fresh black tee and loose jeans. He didn’t go far to change, there was a spare room here stocked with clothes Stefan had given him years ago, just in case. Their kind of work didn’t come with fixed hours. Sometimes, night bled into morning with no warning.
In his hands, he held a tray, on it, a bowl of warm porridge, lightly sweetened, with sliced fruits on the side and a glass of water. Something light, soft… easy for a tired body and a worried heart.
He placed it gently on the side table, casting a brief glance at Mia before shifting his gaze to Stefan.
“She hasn’t eaten all night,” he said simply, before stepping back into the shadows of the room.
Stefan’s eyes fell on Mia. “Eat,” he said.
But she shook her head immediately. “I’m not hungry.’
))
Stefan inhaled slowly, pressing his lips together in frustration. He stood from where he’d been leaning against the wall and walked up to her, his expression turning stern. Without a word, he turned her to face him.
His gaze was intense, sharp. “Are you a child, Mia?” She blinked at him, startled.
“Why won’t you eat?” he asked, voice hard. “Do you think starving yourself will help Elena? That it’ll change anything? All it will do is make you weak, vmake you sick. And when that happens, who will take care of her then?”
His words weren’t cruel, but they were firm, scolding her like a stubborn child who needed to be shaken out of her emotions.
Mia pouted, lips pressed together in a sulky line. But after a pause, she opened her mouth slightly and tilted her
