Chapter 75
Stefan was on his way to his room. The hotel corridor was quiet, but his mind wasn’t. It replayed Dave’s words over and over again.
Each step he took felt heavier than the last, his hands tucked inside his pockets like he needed to keep them from shaking.
He hadn’t said a word since he left Mia’s room.
He couldn’t. Because if he’d spoken, it would’ve come out wrong. Too cold. Too angry. Too vulnerable.
And Stefan Sterling never lost control.
But in that room, seeing Dave’s lips on hers, watching her frozen in place, hearing that man say she was marrying the wrong person……. that she didn’t love him…….it did something to him.
It scraped something raw inside him.
He reached his room and shut the door behind him. The silence hit him like a wave. His hand rested on the knob a few seconds longer than necessary before he let go and leaned against the door.
She didn’t kiss him back.
She looked shocked.
She told him to leave.
He replayed every second. Every expression on her face. The way her eyes widened. The way she stepped back, but still…….he kissed her.
That alone made Stefan’s jaw clench. Restraining himself from commiting murder had been a miracle.
He crossed the room and sat on the edge of the bed, elbows on his knees, staring at the carpet like it could answer all the questions in his head.
He had never felt like this before.
This wasn’t jealousy. It was… betrayal.
Not because she did something wrong, but because for a split second, he realized something terrifying.
He didn’t want this marriage to just be a contract anymore.
He wanted her.
All of her. Her fire. Her clumsiness. Her late-night rants. Her quiet smiles. Her annoying way of wriggling into his head when he least expected it.
He wanted to be the only one who got to kiss her. The only one who got to see her every morning, messy-haired and sleepy-eyed.
And tonight, the fear of losing that…… of losing her…..had settled in his chest like a weight he didn’t know how to lift.
What if she’d agreed to let Dave help with the revenge plan Dave also was capable, meaning she didn’t need him that much anymore. And he is open with his feelings, he’s kind. He has a heart, he smiles a lot. He wouldn’t hurt
her.

But him, he was the opposite of Dave. And he knew ladies want men like Dave.
Was Dave right? Did Mia love him? She’d known him for years. Her face lit up when she’s with him.
He rubbed his hand over his face. But no amount of dragging his palm down his face could erase the image of her standing there, confused and helpless.
It wasn’t her fault. He knew that.
But he’d had learned long ago not to make decisions when his heart was loud. And tonight? His heart was screaming.
He stood and walked to the balcony, stepping into the cool ight air. The city lights flickered below, unaware of the chaos brewing in his chest.
The stars blinked like they knew tomorrow was supposed to be the happiest day of his life. Because he was getting married to Mia Meyer.
But all he could think about was the way she had looked at him earlier.
Guilty. Scared. Not of him……but of what he might do. Of whether he’d still show up.
And that broke him a little more. Because he had promised her.
And Stefan Sterling doesn’t break promises.
He closed his eyes, letting the wind hit his face.
This wasn’t about his promise again. This was about him wanting nothing else than making Mia Meyer his wife.
Even if his chest feels like it’s been ripped open.
Even if he’s still burning with the image of another man’s lips touching her.
He’d be there tomorrow. As her husband. Maybe not fully healed. But he would be there.
Because deep down, he alone knows the truth.
He loved her.
God help him….. he loved Mia Meyer with every fiber of his bones.
And no kiss… no contract… no fear could change that.
Elena stared at her phone, pacing her room like someone preparing for war.
Mia lay curled up on the bed asleep. And Stefan?
Nothing. She hasn’t heard anything from him.
It was driving her crazy. Her best friend was curled up in bed, overthinking everything, barely breathing. And that man….her husband-to-be…was somewhere observing with cool indifference like the aloof Greek god he was.
She dialed Mose’s number.
“Mose,” she said the second he picked.
“Yeah.”
“How is he?”

There was a pause on the other end. Mose already understood who she was referring too.
Then, in a low voice he said, “Silent. Too…… silent.”
Elena stopped pacing. That wasn’t good.
“Can I talk to him?” she asked.
Another pause. “Elena…..”
“Please.” There was something in her voice. Desperation. Cre. Fire.
Mose sighed, knowing he couldn’t say no to her. Not when she was this worried. He walked through the quiet hallway, then stopped outside Stefan’s room. He knocked twice, then walked in without waiting for permission.
Stefan was on the bed, still dressed, shirt half unbuttoned, sitting like a statue staring at nothing.
Mose stood in front of him, phone in hand.
“He can hear you,” he said to Elena, then pressed the speaker button before Stefan could say anything. “It’s on loudspeaker.”
Stefan raised his brow in confusion.
“Elena,” Mose called out again.
And then her voice came through, sharp and loud like a lightning strike.
