Chapter 131 Happiness
Paul and his mom each got a share.
He ate so happily that his eyes squinted into little lines.
Paul’s mom saw her son’s joy and, out of habit, wanted to save her portion for him to eat
tomorrow.

Paul pushed her hand back with determination. His little face was so serious. “Mom, you need to eat! Ms. Elizabeth said if you eat this good stuff, you’ll get better! Please eat it!”
She did not believe for a second that eating food could heal a mental injury.
But when she saw the hope in her son’s eyes and felt the warm smell coming from the food in her hands, she smiled and nodded. She took a gentle bite of the baked sweet potato.
The sweetness and soft texture took her over in an instant.
She felt a comforting warmth and fullness from the food. She looked at the people around her -tired, but filled with hope. The worry that had weighed on her for so long, that fear of what would happen to Paul after she died, just melted away without a trace.
Here, with Elizbeth’s protection, even a kid like Paul could work for a living and keep his dignity.
On the outer edge of the farm center, Isaac and the others finished up their day’s work and got ready to rest. The smell of food drifted over on the breeze and made their mouths water.
They craned their necks, trying to see into the center. All they caught were the shadows of people and the glow of a fire.
Milo swallowed hard. He mumbled, “It has to be those potatoes the Boss grew. Smells amazing…”
Isaac took a deep breath. He sounded sure. “Not just potatoes. There’s a really sweet smell. That’s baked sweet potato for sure.”
A guy they called Big–Eye, who always stuck with Isaac, closed his eyes and sniffed with all his might, looking completely entranced. “And strawberries. I could never forget that smell. I saw the Boss eat one once. That scent stuck with me ever since.”
Everyone felt a mix of envy and longing. “Who knows when we’ll get to taste something the Boss grew…”
Butcher, the big guy who worked with the man with the scarred face who Isaac and Milo had

in his place before, was drooling too, but he kept his pride. “Why are you all daydreaming Don’t forget we’re prisoners here. Free labor. Why should they give the good stuff to us?”
Isaac glared at him. “We aren’t like you. Just wait and see. If we keep working hard, we’ll get ou chance.”
Butcher wanted to argue, but the bald man next to him shut him up with a look.
They worked nonstop until after midnight. Only then did they finish harvesting the potatoes from the 1.4 acres. The pile looked like a small mountain.
Elizabeth told everyone to get some rest.
There would be more work after sunrise. They needed to replant potatoes on that land and di up 0.7 acre of ripe sweet potatoes.
Fiona kept everyone organized, made sure the tools were put away, the site was cleaned, and then sent people back to their quarters in groups.
Before she left, Tiffany found Elizabeth and handed her seven different storage buttons, all well–maintained.
Elizabeth looked surprised. “What’s this?”
Tiffany explained, “These are the storage buttons we brought with us when we got exiled. We already cleaned out our personal things. They’re all empty now. Together, they hold over 350 thousand cubic feet. I thought you might need them, so I brought them to you.”
Elizabeth smiled as she took the storage buttons. “That’s perfect! I was just worrying about running out of storage space for all this. Thank you, Tiffany. I mean it. You all are a huge help.”
With all this new space, she could take most of the potatoes and sweet potatoes with her.
The more she brought, the more she could sell.
The next night, Elizabeth had everything ready. She left with Fiona, Peter, Tasha, and Selina for the recycling station.
They rode the sleek silver spaceship that ran the recycling express. The speed was astonishing.
When Peter, Tasha, and Selina learned that a round trip ticket cost 100 thousand stellar coins each, their jaws dropped. Their faces twisted with pain at the thought.
“One hundred thousand?” Peter counted on his fingers, looking lost.
Selina clutched her chest and whispered, “That could buy so many liquid supplements…”
