She figured no matter how much Seafarm Group tried to dominate the market, they’d never touch her.

She only cared about the fact that Seafarm owned an ultraluxury mall called Seafarm Select.

That place only sold produce grown on Seafarm farms

There was also a restaurant inside called The Delicacy Room.

Rumor had it, you could order any natural food you could name, and they’d whip it up for you.

Elizabeth wiped her hands and grinned. Let’s go! My treat at The Delicacy Room! We’re getting a feast tonight!

Fiona’s face twisted in panic. No way! The food there costs a fortune! Even a bowl of mashed potatoes is thousands of stellar coins, and it doesn’t even taste half as good as what we grow on the farm. I’d rather stick with our potatoes and sweet potatoes.”

Elizabeth shot her down right away. Nope, we’re going!

She wasn’t actually interested in eating there. She planned to use the meal as an excuse to sneak out with samples of any fruit or veggie they didn’t already have back on her farm.

She wanted to breed them herself and turn her own farm into the real agricultural kingdom.

Reality hit her like a slap.

Seafarm Select was members only.

And you couldn’t get a membership just by flashing some cash. You needed serious status, influence, or a personal referral from a current member.

They barely reached the entrance, which looked more like a modern art museum than a store, before security in sharp uniforms blocked them with fake courtesy but real force.

Sorry, folks. Members only. The guard’s voice had a polite edge, but he looked them up and down with a cold, dismissive stare that made Elizabeth’s blood boil.

Thinking back on it now, Elizabeth’s temper started to rise all over again.

She hurled a halfeaten corn cob into the collection bag and snapped, Those snobs at Seafarm Group, thinking they’re better than everyone else!

The more she thought about it, the angrier she got.

Her frustration turned into a fierce determination.

She set her jaw. Just wait. When my farm’s got every crop under the sun, I’ll build my own luxury produce mall. And it’ll be right in the middle of downtown Centria.”

I’ll stick the biggest, brightest sign out front. It’ll say: No Seafarm employees allowed inside!

Fiona heard her muttering and burst out laughing.

Peter, Tasha, and Selina didn’t quite get why Elizabeth was so mad, but seeing her so fired up, they nodded

Peter held up a limp, halfrotted cabbage and asked, M Elizabeth! Does this count as cabbage? The leaves are wilted, but the stem looks alright!

Fiona dug through a pile of greens and grinned. I found some onions! The outside’s bad, but the core’s still good!

Selina’s eyes sparkled as she held up her finds. I grabbed some garlic! And look, grapes too!

Tasha, focused, held up a few mushrooms that looked a little worse for wear but still edible. I found mushrooms.

In less than an hour, they’d collected a decent haul.

One carrot, half a corn cob, two onions, several garlic bulbs, half a cabbage, three shriveled oranges, five loose grapes, and a handful of mushrooms.

Most of it was wilted, bruised, or moldy, but to Elizabeth, every single piece was a treasure for the farm’s future.

She could nurse them back with her magic rain and runes.

They were all celebrating their haul when a ruckus echoed down the hall. The thud of a ball rolling and laughter bounced closer and closer.

Three boys, all looking about sixteen and dressed in designer clothes, strutted through the basement, chasing a bright soccer ball and shoving each other around.

One of them kicked the ball too hard, sending it straight into Tasha’s back while she was bent over picking through scraps.

The impact knocked Tasha forward, and she crashed into a pile of cold, slimy leftovers.

Her arms and knees scraped across the filthy floor, and blood started to bead. Grime smeared across her clothes.

The boys howled with laughter, not even pretending to feel bad. They pointed at Tasha, faces twisted in glee.
