Chapter 211 A Gift Rushed to the Front

Finished

Apparently, when Elizabeth had divided everything up, she’d decided a rough, nononsense man like Cristian didn’t deserve fruit that good, so she’d simply given his share to Zaylee instead.

Looking at the gift Elizabeth had sent for Cristian, Zaylee felt both surprised and strangely delighted. The surprise came from the fact that Elizabeth and Cristian had never even met. Their marriage had begun so abruptly.

And yet, in handling her relationship with the Hewitts, Elizabeth had still thought to set aside a separate portion for Cristian. That kind of thoughtfulness and courtesy showed a level of maturity far beyond what Zaylee had expected. The delightness, though, came from something else. This felt like a good sign.

It meant Elizabeth didn’t see this marriage entirely as a joke or a burden. She was trying, in her own way, to fulfill some part of being a wife. She was also trying to establish some kind of connection with Cristian. That was exactly what Zaylee had been hoping for.

She liked Elizabeth far too much, this independent, capable girl who seemed to carry spiritual energy in everything she did. And more than anything, she wanted Elizabeth and Cristian, who was as hard and cold as stone, to truly come together and become family in the real sense of the word.

Jeremy,Zaylee said, in excellent spirits, have the supplies we prepared for Cristian already been packed?

Yes, Mrs. Hewitt. Everything is ready. As planned, our family transport ship will deliver them to the Seventh Fleet base this afternoon,Jeremy replied.

Good. Put this storage button in with them too. And make sure they understand clearly that Mrs. Elizabeth prepared it especially for him.Zaylee deliberately stressed the word especially, smiling as she said it.

She was already imagining what expression Cristian would make when he received a gift from his wife. He’d probably frown. Still, with food that good, he’d definitely try it.

The light, happy mood, however, didn’t last long.

About half an hour later, the faint sound of a hover car landing came from outside the estate. Then came a series of steady but slightly hurried footsteps, drawing closer by the second.

Trevor strode into the sitting room. He had just come from an emergency highlevel military meeting and was still dressed in his sharply tailored dark blue uniform. The stars on his epaulets gleamed brightly. But the calm steadiness he usually carried had been replaced by a rare heaviness and severity.

Zaylee.Trevor nodded to her, then turned to Jeremy, who stood nearby, and asked in a grave voic Jeremy, have the supplies for Cristian been sent out yet?

Jeremy bowed at once. Commander Hewitt, the ship has completed inspection and loading. Under the original schedule, it will depart in three hours.

Cancel the original schedule.” Trevor cut him off, decisive and firm. Put the ship on highest standby immediately. It must depart within one hour. I’ve already spoken to route control. It’ll have priority

clearance.

Zaylee’s heart skipped. She set down the melon she’d been absently playing with and looked at her husband in concern. What happened? Why the rush?

She knew Trevor well. Unless the matter was extremely urgent, he would never interrupt established plans like this, much less invoke special privileges.

Trevor sat down beside Zaylee and rubbed the space between his brows, the weight on his face refusing to ease. There’s been trouble at the border, worse than we expected. The new Swarmborn have now been confirmed to possess the ability to attack mental power directly. And the attacks are highly covert, hard to detect, and difficult to defend against. The Ironwall forward base under the Seventh Fleet was hit first. It took a surprise attack, and the casualtieswere severe.

Zaylee sucked in a breath, her face paling slightly.

Mental power attacks. For the kingdom’s military, which depended heavily on coordinated combat between equipment and mental power, that was nothing short of a nightmare.

Physical wounds could still be treated. But once mental power was damaged, especially if it collapsed, that was nearly the end of an excellent soldier’s life, and sometimes worse than death.

And CristianZaylee’s voice tightened.
