Chapter 22 HalfPrice Potatoes

Fir

He clenched his fists so hard that his nails dug into his palms, but he could only lower his head furthe

They were right. Even though he had Alevel mental power, he could only afford the cheapest liquid supplements and sedatives, which were full of impurities. This made his mental power less stable, and even weaker than that of some rich Blevel students.

This made him a laughingstock for his class, and even for the whole grade.

When he reached his locker and was about to open it, a tall figure leaned over. He was Tyler Lincoln, c of the class bullies who took pleasure in picking on him.

Tyler’s family owned shopping malls and was extremely wealthy.

Hey, Ethan, why do you still look so pale today? Did you drink too much of that cheap garbage liquid again?Tyler patted Ethan’s cheek. He hit him pretty hard, and it was meant to be insulting.

Ethan suddenly jerked his head away and stared at Tyler with anger.

What are you staring at? Can’t I call a loser a loser?Tyler sneered, and the few lackeys behind him bur into laughter.

Tyler, let’s go. It won’t be good if a teacher sees us.a quiet voice said. It was Kyle, Ethan’s former desk

mate.

Kyle’s family used to be average too, but somehow he had latched onto Tyler later on. Since then, he ha distanced himself from Ethan, and sometimes even mocked him along with the others.

What’s this, Kyle? Do you want to stand up for your loser friend?Tyler looked sideways at Kyle.

Kyle immediately shrank his neck and laughed awkwardly. How could I, Tyler? I was just saying it casually.

He looked at Ethan with a complicated expression, but mostly he just looked like he wanted to stay out of trouble.

Ethan felt cold inside. A friend he used to tell everything to had become so weak in the face of power.

He ignored them, silently opened his locker, and only wanted to leave as soon as possible.

Just then, his device buzzed. It was a message from his mother saying she was at the school gate and had brought him some food.

Ethan’s heart tightened. Why was his mother here?

Her work at the factory was so busy. He quickly packed his things and ran toward the school gate.

At the gate, his mother was wearing her faded work uniform. She had a tired but warm smile on her face as she looked through the crowd.

When she saw Ethan, she waved and handed him a lunch box.

Finish

Ethan, studying is tiring, right? I made you something to eat. Hurry and eat it while it’s warm.

Ethan took the lunch box, which felt heavy in his hands. He felt a lump in his throat. Mom, didn’t I tell you? I can just drink liquid supplements at school. Don’t keep running back and forth, it’s too tiring.”

It’s not tiring at all,his mother said, waving her hand and smiling. I got paid today and I saw someone selling potatoes at the market. They were so cheap! Half price! So I bought a lot. Take these and eat them will bring you more tomorrow!

Potatoes?

Half price?

Ethan froze for a moment.

Natural food was always a luxury for their family. How could his mother

He looked at the wrinkles at the corners of her eyes and the white hair appearing too early on her head. I saw her back, which was slightly bent from years of hard work. His throat felt blocked and he couldn’t ev say a word.

For a moment, he even thought about dropping out of school.

He didn’t want his mother to work so hard for him anymore. He didn’t want to suffer insults in this schoo full of bullies.

MomHis voice trembled.

Go back and eat. I have to get back to work. His mother patted his shoulder, turned around, and left quickly. Her back soon disappeared into the crowd.

Ethan held the warm lunch box and stood there with mixed feelings.

He hated how useless he was. He hated this unfair world.

Ethan! What are you doing standing here?Evan had just come back to school after his leave and saw Ethan standing still at the gate. He couldn’t help but call out to him.

Ethan snapped back to his senses and greeted him politely, Evan.

Tyler and his lackeys loved blocking him on the way after school. Evan had helped him several times and Ethan was deeply grateful.

Evan glanced at the lunch box in his hands and smiled. Your mom brought you food again?

Ethan nodded. Do you want some?

No, thanks,” Evan said. I’ve already eaten. Lunchtime’s almost over. You should head back quickly.

Then I’ll head back first. Goodbye, Evan.

Goodbye!Evan said.
