Chapter 245 Get In Line

The people in line stood their ground, but their eyes remained sharp and alert.

Time crept toward nine, every gaze locked on the front of the plaza.

At 8:50, an unremarkable hover car pulled to a stop at the edge of Mercury Plaza.

The door slid open, and Elizabeth hopped out first, followed closely by Fiona, Tasha, Peter, and Selina.

When they saw the stall, even though Elizabeth had braced herself, the sight still gave her a jolt.

The line stretched on and on, winding like a giant dragon with no tail in sight.

They waited in silence, yet there was a quiet, unshakable power in their patience.

The crowd was bigger than ever, and those at the front were all familiar faces.

Wowso, so many people!Tasha whispered, eyes wide as saucers.

Selina was still gripping Tasha’s hand, clearly just as pumped..

And when the crowd saw Elizabeth and her little team, a hardtodescribe ripple of excitement went

hrough them.

Before anyone knew who started it, soft, restrained applause began to rise.

It started as a few scattered claps but quickly swelled into one steady rhythm.

There was no cheering, no shoutingjust that warm, rolling applause. It was a silent tide of welcome, support, and trust.

That applause made Fiona and the others stand a little taller, and it wiped away the last chill that the rumors had left on Elizabeth’s heart.

She gave the crowd a slight nod, a calm, steady smile on her face, and waved a hand. Let’s get to work!

Tables and chairs went up. Box after box of freshsmelling potatoes, sweet potatoes, and strawberries was neatly arranged.

It was the same old routine, but today, it felt different.

As soon as Elizabeth appeared, the trolls hiding near the back of the line couldn’t hold back anymore.

Their job today was to cause a scene, trash the stall, make Elizabeth look bad in front of everyone, and if possible, start a fight that would make the news.

Move it! Everybody move! We’ve got urgent business with the boss! The skinny man brought two accomplices with him. Spotting a gap, he shoved his way to the front and reached out to grab Tasha, who was helping Fiona arrange the strawberries.

What the hell are you doing?

Get in line! Show some manners!

Several older men nearby immediately stepped in to block him and barked at them.

Business? I see you’re just here to stir up shit!Wallace’s son stepped up, his solid frame acting like a wall.

So what if we are? You think people selling poisoned food get to act so high and mighty?another troll shricked, trying to rile everyone up. Look, everyone! They’re panicking! That means they’re guilty!

But this time, the crowd reacted faster and more united than ever.

Elizabeth and her team didn’t need to do a thing. Seven or eight strong young customers nearby stepped up simultaneously, forming a halfcircle, and shoved the three linecutters right out.

They weren’t being violent, but the force behind it was unmistakableit was a warning to get lost.

Get your asses to the back of the line!

Try pushing forward again, and we won’t be so nice!

Crushed by the sheer numbers and attitude, the trolls staggered backward, nearly falling. Their faces went green, then white.

With cold, hostile stares coming at them from every direction, they finally didn’t dare try it again. Still cursing under their breath, they slunk back to their corner, looking even more venomous.

At that moment, Wallace’s family, who stood first in line, began to buy.

Just like always, Wallace cheerfully called out his order and watched Elizabeth and Fiona pack it up. But after paying, he didn’t leave like he usually did.

He tucked his things away, looked at Elizabeth seriously, and spoke in a low, sincere voice. Ms. Schofield, keep going. We old folks? We know exactly what’s what. Don’t let it get to you. Just keep doing your thing.

Then he took his wife’s hand and left.

But instead of heading out of the plaza, he led his family quietly to the side of the stall and stood there in silence.

Elizabeth paused, stunned, not quite understanding what they were doing.
