Chapter 35 Sensitive Issue

Elmer stood to the side and watched. When he thought about Elizabeth’s embarrassing background records, he felt nothing but disdain and disapproval.
He couldn’t help speaking up. His tone carried a clear warning. “Ms. Schofield, there’s something I need to make clear. General Hewitt personally doesn’t agree with this marriage arranged by the Kingdom’s forced genetic match. Today’s registration is only to follow the law. I hope you understand your position and don’t have any unrealistic expectations.”
After saying that, he felt a little uneasy. Maybe he had been too harsh.
Being told so directly that your future husband didn’t want the marriage would be humiliating for any
woman.
But he didn’t see the sadness, embarrassment, or even awkwardness he expected.
Instead, Elizabeth’s eyes lit up. Not only was she not angry, she actually looked thrilled. She even clapped her hands lightly. “Really? That’s great! To be honest, I don’t agree with this marriage either! We actually feel the same! So, can we just handle the divorce now? Is the process fast?”
Elmer was speechless.
His mind went blank for a second.
He had imagined many possible reactions. But not this one.
She didn’t agree either?
And she’s happy about it?
She even wanted a divorce right away?
The director of the hall started sweating and quickly stepped forward to calm things down. “Ms… Ms. Schofield, that’s not possible! According to the Kingdom’s Superior Genetics Act and the Special Regulations on Genetic Match Marriage, couples with a compatibility rate over 90% are required by law to marry! Even if both parties disagree, the marriage must be registered first. And you must remain married for at least one year before applying for a mutual divorce!”
The smile disappeared from Elizabeth’s face. She looked very disappointed. “What? We have to wait a whole year? That long?”
She had thought she could just go through the process today and leave.
The director nodded quickly and added more details, hoping she would understand how serious this was.
“Yes, Ms. Schofield. And after one year, divorce requires agreement from both sides. If one party disagrees…”
Elizabeth caught the key point right away. She frowned. “If one side disagrees, what happens? We can’t divorce? Are we stuck for life?”

No!
The director wiped his sweat, completely unsure how to explain this sensitive issue.
The truth was that the Kingdom’s laws favored keeping high–compatibility marriages stable. If one side refused to divorce, the process could become long and complicated.
Elmer watched Elizabeth openly show how much she wanted a divorce. For some reason, it made him uncomfortable.
He believed Elizabeth wasn’t worthy of Cristian. But hearing that she disliked the marriage so much- maybe even more than Cristian did–felt strange. It was like Cristian had been insulted.
He couldn’t help asking in a slightly sharp tone, “Why don’t you want to marry General Hewitt? He’s the youngest War God in the Kingdom. An SSS–level mental power user. His strength, status, and looks are all top–tier. He’s the dream man of countless people! On what grounds do you refuse?”
Elizabeth looked at him like he was foolish. “Lieutenant Guerrero, what you’re saying makes no sense. Weren’t you the one who just warned me not to have unrealistic thoughts? You said General Hewitt didn’t agree to this marriage. Now that I don’t agree either, you’re unhappy? So, which do you want? Do you want me to agree or disagree? Your logic is kind of contradictory.”
“L…” Elmer’s face turned red.
He was good at planning battles and handling emergencies on the battlefield. But he had never met a woman who talked like this–unexpected and sharp.
