Chapter 3
When I pointed at Josie, her eyes darted, and tears began streaming down her face.
“Maya, just because Mr. Voss favors me, you’re setting me up with something this cruel? No wonder you gave me such a tight printing deadline. You can’t build the software Mr. Voss needs, you’re scared we’ll lose the bid tomorrow, and you want me to take the fall!”
The others jumped in immediately.
“I heard Mr. Voss has been furious that tech hasn’t cracked the bottleneck in a year. This old lady’s smart, using Josie as a scapegoat!”
“So she doesn’t care if it’s garbage–she just gave Josie an impossible task to blame her later!”
“Vicious. No wonder she’s trying to sleep her way to the top. She knows she’s useless.”
Thomas’s eyes turned sharp as blades. He shoved me hard into the pile of papers on the floor.
“You really plotted this whole thing to frame Josie! I wondered why you volunteered to lead tech and nothing came of it–you were too busy sabotaging her! Apologize to Josie right now, or you’re fired.”
He forgot that back when the company was new and couldn’t afford staff, I’d filled every role on my own time.
Finishing a hundred print jobs in an hour had always been his standard.
But with Josie, it was suddenly me being cruel.
I let out a bitter laugh, stood up, brushed the paper scraps off my clothes, took off my ID badge, and dropped it on the floor. I began packing my things.
“No need to threaten me. I quit.”
I printed one more document, signed it, and held it out to him.
“Sign this, and I’ll send you my mailing address.”
At the words ‘divorce agreement‘, Thomas froze. He actually reached out to stop me from leaving.
The others assumed it was a resignation letter and cheered.
Only Josie’s face turned dark when she saw him grab me. She quickly pulled his arm away.
“Mr. Voss, are you making her come back to apologize? If she resigns as an apology… I might be able to forgive her.”
Thomas snapped back to his senses. Always careful with his image as CEO, he nodded along.
“Exactly. How can we let this toxic woman leave so easily?”

He yanked me back and slammed me against the wall.
“I need this win tomorrow to go down as a legend in this industry! How dare you leave me now?”
The ferocity and desperation in his eyes made me unable to tell if he was keeping me for the bid or for whatever hollow, worn–out thing was left between us.
But I no longer cared to guess. I stared back at him, my heart completely dead.
“If you think I’m useless and I’m in the way of your love, why stop me?”
Thomas stiffened. He glanced back at Josie and covered awkwardly.
“You’re neglecting your duties and bullying coworkers. Don’t drag me into this.”
He leaned in close, his voice low and gritted.
“Is it because I’ve been busy with work these past few months and been distant in bed? You’re throwing a fit
