Abigail
Which was worse, prison or hospital? I couldn’t decide. They both reeked of bleach and antiseptic. They both gave me the creeps. Why were their walls all painted white as well?
Heck, even their seats were hard against my ass. I sat in the cold waiting room, my hands clasped tightly in my lap, staring at the scuffed floor.
They checked me like a thousand times before letting me into the waiting room; you’d think I was here to see the president. They had even checked me with a metal detector!
What did they think I would do exactly? Slip Victoria a bobby pin to escape?
I would rather free Alicia Duke, and that was saying a lot, because I would never free her. I’m just saying, if I had a gun to my head and had to choose between Skinny Lee and Crazy Victoria, I’d take the bullet.
After the guards had checked my ID twice, I was led in here, where I waited behind the glass, my heart hammering with a mix of rage and nerves.
It was a Saturday. Finnegan was back home on a conference call, and I had told him I was going grocery shopping, not visiting his ex-wife.
But I had come for closure and to put Victoria in her place. Victoria was brought in a few minutes later. It was hilarious seeing her hold her nose up while wearing the orange jumpsuit.
Her hair was pulled back tightly, and there were dark circles under her eyes. I would bet her fellow inmates did not appreciate her snobbish attitude one bit.
She sat down across from me, eyes narrowing. "Well, well. If it isn’t the little homewrecker. Have you come to gloat? Orange looks good on me, doesn’t it?"
I smiled sweetly, leaning forward. "Orange does suit you. It brings out the bitterness in your eyes. How’s prison life treating you, Victoria? Are you missing your fake reconciliation tours yet?"
She barked a bitter laugh. "That’s cute. What do you want? Did you come to rub it in that you finally got Finnegan all to yourself? Enjoy it while it lasts. He gets bored easily."
My teeth ground against each other, but I fought hard to keep my voice calm. "I came for the truth. Angel told me what you said to her. That she might not be Finnegan’s daughter. That she’s Devin’s. Was that you just being a cruel bitch, or is there actually something to it?"
Victoria’s smile widened. "Oh, you really don’t know anything, do you? Poor little Abigail, still playing detective after all these years. Yes, I said it. And no, it’s not true, but that girl deserves to fucking suffer after turning me in!"
My stomach twisted. "You’re disgusting. Was there really any need to go this far?"
Victoria leaned closer to the glass, eyes glittering with malice. "Why not? High risk, high reward, right? I mean, you would know that, unless you’re just as stupid as your parents,"
"Say shit about my parents, and this glass won’t be enough to keep me from hurting you," I fumed, and she rolled her eyes.
