’What is that? A scam?’ Nathaniel wondered.
However, his phone had a built-in security filter. Scam and telemarketing calls weren’t supposed to get through.
Before he could make sense of it, the phone rang again.
"Hey, handsome, why’d you hang up? If you don’t like the Golden Summit Hotel, we can pick another one. Or I can come straight to your house. But I want 300 dollars for one night."
Nathaniel hung up again.
A moment later, another unknown number called. His finger accidentally hit accept.
It was another woman whose voice he didn’t recognize, but the message was no different. "Sir, so are we on? Today or tomorrow works. You sounded pretty desperate, so why not today? You pick the place, and I’ll be right..."
Nathaniel’s expression darkened. "What are you talking about?"
The woman paused, clearly confused. "What do you mean? I’m asking if you want to go through with it or not. Didn’t you say you were sex-crazed and couldn’t live without a woman?"
Nathaniel wasn’t stupid. He immediately understood what was going on. Yara had done that.
He closed his eyes and forced down his rising anger. After a long pause, he exhaled slowly and said coldly, "I’m not interested. Get lost."
The woman snapped back just as rudely, "What the hell? Why’d you post the ad if you’re not interested? Such a waste of my time!"
Nathaniel hung up and massaged his temples.
Before he could calm down, a third call came in. He answered impatiently and snapped, "I’m not interested."
There was a pause on the other end.
It was his assistant, Luke.
Luke spoke cautiously, worried that he was interrupting something. "Mr. Sloan... the kindergarten called. They wanted to confirm whether Mr. Christian will be attending this year."
Nathaniel’s tone immediately steadied. "Ask Christian what he wants. Do as he says."
Then he paused briefly before adding, "And help the other two kids in the house enroll as well."
Luke hesitated, then nodded even though Nathaniel couldn’t see him.
Those two were definitely troublemakers. Why was Nathaniel so invested in them? Did he actually plan to be their father?
’Well... whatever.’ Luke wasn’t going to get involved in that decision. It was time to get off work.
Meanwhile, at Imperial Crest...
The three kids stared at each other in silence.
After a full five minutes, Mia finally broke it. "Hi?"
They had been about to return to their room when they turned around and realized the Sloan boy had been following them.
Zachery immediately stepped in front of Mia, his expression guarded. "What do you want?"
"I came to give you gifts." Christian held out a small box. "Zachery, this is for you. It suits your vibe. Do you like it?"
He opened the box to reveal a pair of sunglasses.
Zachery suddenly felt the awkward pressure of receiving a gift he couldn’t refuse. "Uh... I mean... I..."
Before he could finish, Christian had already turned to Mia. "Mia, I noticed your pajamas were a little worn, so I bought you a new set. What do you think? Pretty, right?"
Mia was rendered speechless.
Christian’s tone softened, deceptively sincere. "Anything you want, I can get for you."
Zachery’s heart skipped a beat. ’This boy is really good at winning people over.’
On the other hand, Mia felt a chill. ;This boy seems far too good at acting nice.’
She asked carefully, "What do you really want?"
Christian lowered his gaze slightly and delivered a proposal designed to capture their attention. "I know you hate Noelle Lockwood too. Let’s work together and get her out of here."
’What?’ Zachery was stunned into silence. ’Wait, isn’t Noelle this boy’s mother?’
