When Nathaniel Sloan heard the words "big trouble," he wasn’t nervous. He simply gave a slight nod, looking entirely calm and composed.
"If you’re referring to my family matters, I’m already aware."
Enzo Kendrick was a little surprised by the young man. Anyone else who had been schemed against by their own family would hardly be this composed.
Nathaniel Sloan seemed to read his mind, his tone flat. "They never considered me family. The feeling is mutual."
Hearing this, Enzo Kendrick said no more. "As long as you’re aware. This kind of trouble... most people wouldn’t be able to handle it."
Nathaniel Sloan shook his head slightly. "It doesn’t concern me."
"Good, good. In that case, I’ll say no more."
After Enzo Kendrick spoke, silence fell over the private room again. He gave a nervous chuckle. "Tea? Let’s drink some tea."
’Seriously, what am I supposed to say now? Are we just going to let this awkwardness hang in the air? I have social anxiety!’
...
「Meanwhile.」
Estelle Lockwood had found out where the person in charge of the acquisition was. After observing for two minutes, she spotted a handsome, refined-looking bald man who appeared to be in his forties.
Estelle Lockwood watched as people came and went, all addressing the handsome bald man as "Boss." They asked him if he was getting used to being back from his trip abroad. This, combined with what the manager had said—that the person acquiring Celestine Pavilion was Mr. Lynch—led her to a conclusion.
She nodded immediately, her mind made up.
’That’s right. This handsome bald man must be Mr. Lynch!’
The man in charge was speaking to his assistant when he turned and suddenly saw a young, beautiful woman standing nearby, staring at him with an intense gaze.
He stared for a moment, feeling that the woman looked familiar. After a moment of thought, it dawned on him.
’Isn’t this the big boss’s wife! What is she doing here? Could she be unhappy with some aspect of the Celestine Pavilion acquisition?’
While he was still pondering this, Estelle Lockwood spoke up. "Hello, Mr. Lynch."
Delight was written all over the man’s face. ’Heavens, Mrs. Sloan knows my surname is Linton! Her pronunciation is a bit off, but it’s a minor detail!’
But Linton didn’t dwell on it, a wide smile spreading across his face. "Mrs. Sloan! A pleasure, a real pleasure!"
Estelle Lockwood: "...?" ’Wait, something’s not right here.’
’The Mr. Lynch I imagined was composed and aloof. Why would he be smiling so... brightly?’
Before Estelle Lockwood could speak, Linton asked in a fawning tone, "Is there something I can help you with, Mrs. Sloan?"
Estelle Lockwood snapped out of her daze. "I came here specifically to see you."
Linton was thrilled. "Oh?"
Estelle Lockwood hinted, "Um... my name is Estelle Lockwood. Does that name... ring a bell?"
’The name she used when writing to Mr. Lynch was Estelle Kendrick. Her real name was Estelle Lockwood. Both names included ’Estelle.’ With a hint that obvious, Mr. Lynch had to understand, right?’
Linton looked utterly lost. "Huh?"
Estelle Lockwood cleared her throat. "For the past few years, we’ve..." *...written so many emails, and you’ve helped me so much. I’ve never had a chance to thank you properly. Now that I do, Mr. Lynch, I want to formally express my gratitude.*
Unfortunately, before Estelle Lockwood could get the rest of the words out, she saw "Mr. Lynch’s" expression turn to one of pure terror as he took three quick steps back.
"P-P-Please don’t say such things! I haven’t had any contact with you over the last few years! M-M-Mr. Sloan, please, you mustn’t misunderstand!"
Linton was stammering so badly his voice cracked.
Estelle Lockwood’s smile froze. ’Wait,’ she thought, the sense that something was very wrong growing stronger. She instinctively turned her head—
Nathaniel Sloan gave a slight nod. "Linton, she has the wrong person."
Linton went limp with relief. ’So it was mistaken identity! I knew it!! She nearly gave me a heart attack!’
Estelle Lockwood was confused. ’I have the wrong person? If this bald, middle-aged man isn’t Mr. Lynch, then where is he?’
’He must still be at Celestine Pavilion. He’d surely come in person for something as important as an acquisition.’
