Ethan Sloan had already been annoyed after being publicly snubbed by Nathaniel Sloan. Now, having a subordinate interrupt him made him even more displeased. "What’s with all the recklessness?!"
The subordinate was gasping for breath. "Chairman Sloan, that land... that parcel of land, it’s being re-evaluated!"
’A re-evaluation? Don’t tell me the value is going to increase?’
A look of delight appeared on Ethan Sloan’s face. "Well? What are the results of the evaluation?!"
"There... over there..." The subordinate had clearly run the whole way. He was so out of breath he could barely speak, forcing out the most important part, "It’s government officials. They’re looking for Young Mr. Lancaster..."
"The government is looking for Theodore? Could they be looking for a joint development deal?!"
The thought struck Ethan Sloan instantly. It wasn’t without precedent; if the government wanted to develop a region’s economy, they would carry out infrastructure projects and the like.
Now that the land was in Theodore’s hands, if the government wanted to build in the area, they would indeed have to cooperate with him!
’If we can establish a connection with the government...’ At this thought, Ethan Sloan was overjoyed. "This is great news! Theodore really has a good eye! So many people were against acquiring that land back then. Even Nathaniel pulled out, but Theodore insisted. I really didn’t choose the wrong heir."
Everyone subconsciously glanced at Nathaniel Sloan.
Yvonne Lancaster couldn’t help but sneer, "An illegitimate son will always be an illegitimate son. Even if he grew up in the Sloan Family, he’s still short-sighted. Not like our Theodore."
Old Mr. Lancaster feigned a calm demeanor. "Yvonne, you can’t put it that way. After all, Theodore was meticulously raised by us. How can a prodigy like him be compared to filth?"
For a moment, everyone looked at Theodore Lancaster with even greater envy.
Doted on by the Lancaster Family and supported by the Sloan Family, he had secured this land right after returning to the Sloans, making a name for himself and completely overshadowing Mr. Sloan.
Old Mr. Lancaster and Yvonne Lancaster swelled with pride, and Laura Jennings was thrilled. Theodore Lancaster gave a graceful nod, leaving an impression of being poised and confident.
The subordinate was completely dumbfounded.
’Wait, why have they already started celebrating?!’
Ethan Sloan was still immersed in the joyful atmosphere. He cheerfully patted Theodore Lancaster on the shoulder. "Theodore, now I can finally hand over the Sloan Group to you with confidence..."
"Chairman Sloan!" the subordinate couldn’t help but interrupt. He had finally caught his breath. Before Ethan Sloan could finish his sentence, and before they could continue their touching father-son display, the subordinate yelled out in a frantic panic:
"Chairman Sloan, it’s not good news! It’s not good news at all!"
The corner of Nathaniel Sloan’s lips curled into a slight smile.
Ethan Sloan’s face filled with displeasure as he snapped, "What do you mean it’s not good news? Theodore getting government support isn’t good news? Then what is?"
Laura Jennings was also displeased. "I get it now. Nathaniel Sloan put you up to this to cause trouble, didn’t he! Nathaniel, you’re just too petty! This is a joyous occasion, and you insist on saying it’s not good news. You’re just jealous you didn’t get the land, aren’t you? How could I have a son like you? Nathaniel Sloan, you just—"
The subordinate was completely flustered, his lips trembling. "No, that’s not it! Chairman Sloan, there’s a problem with the land!"
His panicked voice cut off Laura Jennings’s furious tirade.
Ethan Sloan snapped back to his senses, frowning in displeasure. "What kind of problem could there be? The payment has been settled, and the development rights are in Theodore’s hands. How could there be a problem? Besides, the government has its eye on that land!"
Laura Jennings raised her voice as well. "Exactly! What problem could there be? If you keep spouting nonsense, I’ll rip your mouth off—"
The subordinate opened his mouth, about to speak, but was cut off by Laura Jennings’s shrill voice. He tried to speak several times but found he couldn’t get a word in over her shouting.
The people on the other end were pressing him for an answer, and no one here would listen. In a fit of desperation, the subordinate grabbed the microphone and drowned out Laura Jennings with a much louder voice—
