M-Mr. Sloan, when did you get here?
Sophie Foster looked a little frightened, but on second thought, she figured she hadn’t said anything wrong. ’Isn’t Thea the one Mr. Sloan loves most? Estelle Lockwood is just asking for humiliation. She’s still refusing to get a divorce and make way for Thea. Mr. Sloan must hate her guts!’
So Sophie Foster couldn’t resist trying to score points. "Mr. Sloan, you’re here! Just look at Estelle Lockwood. She was bad-mouthing Thea behind her back!"
"She claimed Thea and Mrs. York are both the mistress! Isn’t that just nonsense? It’s because Estelle Lockwood and that dead bitch aren’t cherished by their men. That’s their own problem, so how can they blame Thea and Mrs. York for it!"
"You can’t let Estelle Lockwood get away with this! You have to stand up for Thea and teach Estelle a good lesson!"
Penelope Sullivan was stunned. ’Where did this brave soul come from?’
’It would take ten years of brain damage to say something that stupid.’
’Ten years, and not a day less.’
Having said her piece, Sophie Foster looked at Nathaniel Sloan expectantly.
Nathaniel Sloan’s expression was icy. "It seems Miss Foster didn’t learn her lesson last time."
His words were like a bucket of ice water dumped over Sophie Foster, chilling her to the bone.
She vaguely sensed something was wrong. "Mr. Sloan, you... you’re not here to defend Thea?"
"Pfft, hahaha," Penelope Sullivan laughed mockingly, holding nothing back.
"Some people need a reality check. Estelle, a liar? Nathaniel, defending Thea York? Miss Foster, do you take Star’s legal department for a bunch of pushovers?"
The onlookers all understood what was happening now.
"Sophie Foster called Mrs. Sloan a liar? What’s wrong with her?"
"She also said Mr. Sloan was cheating. It really doesn’t look that way at all, does it?"
"Even if he were cheating... wait, is cheating on someone something to be proud of? Why does Sophie Foster look so honored by it?"
Sophie Foster panicked and shouted, "What nonsense are you all talking about! This is all stuff Thea told me! Why would she lie to me!"
Estelle Lockwood nodded in satisfaction. "So this is all Miss York’s doing. It seems I’ve offended Miss York at some point without even realizing it."
Nathaniel Sloan walked over to Estelle Lockwood and handed her a handbag. "You saw this last time and said you liked it."
Estelle Lockwood was taken aback.
’This bag... She had glanced at it in a magazine last time and mentioned the design was nice. He actually remembered?’
Nathaniel Sloan said nonchalantly, "This is the only store in Crestfall that has this bag. I was afraid someone would buy it first, so I booked out the entire store."
Humiliated yet again, Sophie Foster was both furious and frustrated. "Mr. Sloan, even if you’re trying to protect Estelle Lockwood, you don’t have to lie! Everyone knows you booked the store for Thea! You even came here with her today! Aren’t you afraid of hurting Thea’s feelings by doing this!"
Nathaniel Sloan slowly turned his gaze to Sophie Foster.
His thin lips parted as he spoke, slowly and deliberately, "Are you questioning me?"
Sophie Foster suddenly collapsed to the floor.
’S-so scary.’
’Why does Mr. Sloan look so terrifying?!’
Nathaniel Sloan’s aura was powerful and overwhelmingly oppressive. It scared Sophie Foster so much that she started to tremble, unable to say a word for a long time.
"Nathaniel, I didn’t like that bag from earlier."
Suddenly, a gentle female voice came from upstairs. Thea York descended the stairs gracefully as if she knew nothing, a resigned smile on her face. "I don’t like emerald green, so I don’t want that bag..."
Just then, she seemed to finally notice Sophie Foster’s disheveled state and instinctively asked, "What’s going on? Sophie, why are you sitting on the floor?"
As if she had just found her savior, Sophie Foster scrambled to her feet. "Thea!"
Estelle Lockwood chuckled. "Miss York, your timing is perfect. Miss Foster just said a few things that made me very curious, and I was hoping you could help me verify them."
