The two kids had sneaked into the company, but it was Zachery who scoffed in disgust. "So the scumbag really does care a lot about that fake heiress."
He remembered that his mommy had wanted this necklace too, but it seemed that now, someone else had gotten to it first.
It turned out that their scumbag of a dad had bought it and was planning to give it to Noelle.
Zachery snorted and lowered his voice. "Mia, you remember the plan, right?"
In an instant, tears streamed down Mia’s solemn little face. She immediately transformed into an adorable, pitiful little girl.
"Our mission is to ruin the scumbag’s reputation, destroy his image, get revenge for Mommy, and help her vent her anger! Let’s go!"
A second later, she shot forward like a tiny cannonball.
At the reception, Nathaniel had just accepted the necklace and examined it carefully to confirm that all was in order, when suddenly, a little girl dressed in fluffy clothes burst into the room and threw herself at Nathaniel’s leg with a pounce, crying,
"Oh, Daddy, it is you! I finally found you! I’ve missed you so much! Can you give me a hug, please? Boohoohoo..."
The little girl’s cries echoed through the room, plunging everyone into stunned silence.
What was going on? Nathaniel had a daughter?!
However, Mia was just as shocked.
Wait a minute, that scumbag’s aura was glowing gold!
Her senses had always been sharper than those of ordinary people. Great-Grandpa had said she had a natural gift for mystic arts because she could see the aura surrounding other people.
Ordinary people with neither great merits nor major faults had white auras, bad people glowed red, and the truly wicked were so dark red that they were almost black. Only someone with immense merit, or a soul that had accumulated virtue over many lifetimes, could possess a golden aura.
Their dad was obviously a scumbag, so why was his golden aura so bright that it was practically blinding her?
Mia’s little brain worked furiously before she suddenly had an answer to that. She hadn’t learned enough to distinguish his aura yet.
Real tears instantly streamed down her cheeks when she realized that. ’After being Great-Grandpa’s disciple for so long, I am still useless.’
This thought made her cry for real.
Nathaniel’s eyes darkened when she suddenly bumped into him, but a moment later, he caught a familiar scent, and the splitting headache that had plagued him all day instantly eased.
The man froze, his brows knitting together.
What was going on here? This child had the same scent as Estelle!
No, it had to be his imagination.
Then, he lowered his gaze and ordered her, "Let go."
Mia rolled her eyes internally, thinking, ’You scumbag. You think I’m enjoying this?’
On the outside, her eyes immediately reddened with tears as she put on a pitiful expression. "Daddy, why are you telling me to let go? Are you going to abandon me and my brother? My brother and I are good kids. We don’t blame you for leaving us. We have to work odd jobs every day just to earn enough money for food, but we’ll make sure not to spend a single penny of yours, so you’ll still have enough money left to buy a necklace for your new wife."
The way everyone looked at Nathaniel instantly became strange.
Even the middle-aged man was staring at him with his mouth hanging open. "Mr. Sloan, you..."
He had so much money, yet he was treating his own daughter this way? And look at her face. It was a miniature version of Nathaniel’s.
She was indeed Nathaniel’s daughter.
Nathaniel felt his temples beginning to throb hard.
He lifted Mia up with one hand, and a second later, he instinctively adjusted his hold into a proper carrying position.
Then, he walked straight out of the reception and said in a low voice, "Girl, haven’t you ever been told that you can’t just go out and scam people?"
Mia was just about to keep playing dumb, when Zachery suddenly popped out from the side.
"I’m sorry, sir. Mia’s just a little girl, she wasn’t trying to scam you. She just mistook you for our dad. I’m her older brother and I’d like to apologize on her behalf."
Zachery’s eyes looked remarkably like Estelle’s. There was something about those eyes. Even when he was lying through his teeth, people couldn’t help wanting to believe him.
Why was he reminded of Estelle again...
Nathaniel’s jaw tightened, and a familiar ache tugged at his chest.
He couldn’t bring himself to be harsh with two children. Seeing how polite and sensible the boy appeared, he frowned slightly. "Where are your parents?"
Zachery’s eyes darted around. He pursed his lips, then suddenly burst into loud, dramatic sobs, making plenty of noise without shedding a single tear.
"Our dad is dead! He was married but he had plenty of affairs. He was a terrible husband! Even Heaven couldn’t stand him anymore, so he got struck by lightning! The grass on his grave is already taller than Mia. And, sir, you look exactly like him!"
