Inside the theater.
Estelle Lockwood sat in her seat, puzzled for a moment before the movie began.
Just then, she sensed someone approaching her.
’Are there other people in this showing?’ Estelle was about to turn sideways to let the person pass when they suddenly stopped.
Confused, Estelle looked up, her eyes widening in an instant. "What are you doing here?!"
Nathaniel Sloan raised an eyebrow slightly.
’What is *she* doing here?’ he wondered.
After Christian had shoved him into the theater, he and Zane Grant had run off. Not wanting to waste Christian’s efforts, Nathaniel had made his way to his seat, only to be surprised to find someone already there.
Nathaniel Sloan strode forward and sat down beside her.
Estelle was so shocked she almost leaped out of her seat. She pinched herself, then glanced at the horror movie playing on the screen. She closed her eyes and muttered to herself:
’I must be seeing things. It’s a ghost. It’s perfectly normal to see a ghost while watching a horror movie.’
Nathaniel Sloan was speechless. "..."
He was so exasperated he almost laughed.
’This woman’s imagination is a little too wild. She’d rather think I’m a ghost than open her eyes and look at me?’
"Miss Lockwood, what a coincidence." Nathaniel spoke, shattering Estelle’s self-delusion.
Estelle opened her eyes and found Nathaniel Sloan still there. She furrowed her brows and accepted reality. "Why are you here?"
"This is a movie theater. That’s a rather pointless question, Miss Lockwood."
Nathaniel’s tone was light, but the implication was clear: what else would he be doing in a movie theater besides watching a movie?
Estelle felt a lump in her throat. She had only asked because seeing Nathaniel Sloan in a movie theater felt so out of place.
’Is Nathaniel Sloan really the kind of person who has the time or inclination to watch movies?’
’Besides, this horror movie has such terrible reviews...’
After thinking it over, Estelle could only come to one conclusion. "Are you following me?"
Nathaniel actually let out an exasperated laugh. "Hah."
"I’m here with Christian to see a movie. What kind of person do you take me for, Miss Lockwood?"
Ever since the press conference, Estelle hadn’t seen him, clearly avoiding him on purpose.
He had helped clear her name, yet he hadn’t received a single word of thanks. Instead, she was avoiding him like the plague. Anyone in his shoes would be in a bad mood.
The three little ones hiding in the corner of the theater: "..."
After much persuasion, they had managed to get rid of Penelope Sullivan and Zane Grant, then snuck back in. They just wanted to see what Daddy and Mommy would do in an empty theater.
And then Christian heard his daddy’s cold, indifferent voice.
Christian pouted, exasperated by his father’s incompetence. ’Daddy! I’m creating this opportunity for you, but you have to make an effort! What are you even saying? What girl would be happy to hear such cold words?’
Zachery and Mia: ’Heh, we knew our scumbag dad was no good. So cold. He must have been faking it before.’
The next moment, they heard Estelle’s chilly reply:
"I can’t help it. If it were anyone else, I wouldn’t think this way. But with someone like you, Mr. Sloan, I can’t be so sure. After all, you can know a person’s face but not their heart. Who knows what you’re really up to."
Zachery and Mia: ’Oh, Mommy’s not much better.’
Nathaniel Sloan’s eyebrow twitched. "Explain yourself. What kind of person am I?"
’Has this woman lost her mind? She wasn’t like this a few days ago when I helped clear her name.’
Estelle averted her gaze.
