Mia looked at the top of Zachery’s head. He’d lost at least two strands of hair, but she still joined in on the scolding. "Exactly! What a psycho! And you’re going bald!"
Zachery: "...?"
’That was uncalled for!’
...
Estelle Lockwood returned to Imperial Crest. After a quick word with her three little ones, she went back to her room.
Chapman couldn’t help but find it strange. "Miss Mia, you’re back with Young Mr. Christian? Where is your father?"
Before Mia could speak, Zachery piped up sarcastically, "Heh. He’s probably out there enjoying himself so much he’s forgotten all about us."
Just as Nathaniel Sloan stepped into the villa, he heard ’Christian’s’ voice and paused.
On the other side of the room, the three little ones had already spilled the beans about what happened today. Zachery finished by asking, "Grandpa Chapman, you be the judge. Doesn’t what Aunt Yara said make sense? Why won’t Daddy believe her?!"
Although Chapman felt that Young Mr. Christian was being a bit too lively today, he still answered.
"Young Master, perhaps Miss Noelle really did treat Madam that way back then. But the master insists on having evidence for everything. If he punished Noelle Lockwood without proof, how could he maintain his authority?"
Zachery’s brow furrowed deeply.
’Evidence?’
Over the past few years, he had secretly learned many hacking skills and investigated many things, including some of the events from five years ago.
His mommy had suffered so many grievances. Every time Noelle Lockwood started crying, his scum dad would believe her and turn around to scold his mommy.
Like the perfume plagiarism, the time she "accidentally" fell down the stairs, that fire...
There was no evidence for any of it, but his scum dad believed it all.
But now, when his mommy was confronting Noelle Lockwood, his scum dad suddenly needed to talk about evidence!
’Isn’t this just blatant favoritism?!’
Suddenly, Chapman remembered something. "That banquet... I think I remember it!"
Zachery’s eyes lit up. "Grandpa Chapman, what do you remember? Did Mom— uh, Aunt Estelle say back then that Noelle Lockwood was bullying her?"
But to his surprise, Chapman shook his head. "If I remember correctly, during that banquet, Madam made a video call to the master. She said everyone was taking good care of her. Dr. Zane Grant and I were both there at the time, and we heard it loud and clear."
Zachery’s smile instantly vanished.
’How is that possible! How could Mommy... ’ Suddenly, he turned and saw Nathaniel Sloan.
’Heh.’
He understood now.
’Grandpa Chapman must have seen Nathaniel, too. That’s why he can’t go against Nathaniel’s wishes and had to make up a lie to deceive my young, innocent heart.’
’A video call? Saying she was happy? That’s all bullshit! Mommy hates video calls! Especially calling Nathaniel Sloan—impossible!’
Disgusted, Zachery turned and went upstairs without so much as a word of farewell.
Chapman: "Hey, Young Master..."
Christian also shook his head calmly. "Grandpa Chapman, he thought you wouldn’t lie to him, but you’ve disappointed him."
With that, he took Mia’s hand, and they went upstairs as well.
Chapman was on the verge of tears. "Mr. Zachery..."
’These two little ones, why have they changed so much recently? Besides, I was telling the truth!’
’Was there some kind of misunderstanding between the master and madam back then that no one knows about?’
Chapman turned to say something, but he saw Nathaniel Sloan lower his gaze and shake his head.
Nathaniel looked upstairs, a hint of inquiry in his eyes.
...
「Upstairs.」
Estelle Lockwood buried herself under the covers.
’It’s only normal for Nathaniel Sloan to defend Noelle Lockwood. After all, that’s how it was for five years. So why am I so disappointed?’
