Chapter 133 Her Little Scheme
“Sophia!” Lucas snapped in a low, sharp voice. He shot her a warning look.

In a business setting like this, losing your cool like that only showed your hand. It made you look weak.
Sophia shut her mouth at his glare, looking sheepish. But the excited flush on her face hadn’t faded yet.
Lucas turned back to Aiden. His expression shifted back to that careful, measured business look.
He was interested in the project–he couldn’t deny that. But he wasn’t about to get carried
away.
He knew Aiden’s reputation in business wasn’t great. The guy took risks and cut corners. Working with him would mean walking a fine line between opportunity and disaster.
“I appreciate the offer, Mr. Quinn,” Lucas said, his voice steady. “But for a project this size, I think we need to see more details first. Would you be willing to share some specifics?”
Aiden didn’t look annoyed at Lucas‘ caution. If anything, he laughed–warm and loud.
“Of course,” he said. He snapped his fingers. His assistant, who had been waiting nearby, nodded. Another waiter stepped forward with a tray and poured wine for all three of them.
“Mr. Ashford, you’re careful. That’s what I like about you.” Aiden raised his glass toward Lucas in a toast. “Words are cheap. I’ve already had basic project briefs prepared. You three can take a look.”
Right on cue, the assistant handed out three documents and placed them on the coffee table.
The moment the papers hit the table, Sophia grabbed one and pulled it toward herself like she was afraid someone would take it away.
Her eyes sparkled with undisguised ambition.
To her, this wasn’t just a project. This was her chance to prove she was more than just arm candy.
Lucas was calmer. He picked up his document but didn’t open it right away. He set it on his knee and tapped it lightly with his finger–keeping up the image of a steady, composed leader.

Chapter 133 Her Little Scheme
Riley, though? She just stayed where she was, relaxed against the couch.
One document remained on the coffee table, alone, as if it was silently inviting her.
Sophia flipped through her copy quickly, watching Riley out of the corner of her eye.
Nothing. She’s not even reaching for it.

Sophia felt a little thrill of satisfaction. Then, as if something had just occurred to her, she looked up and spoke–casual, but sharp underneath. “Riley, since you’re leaving the company soon anyway to focus on being a wife, you probably don’t need to bother with this kind of business stuff. Why wear yourself out?”
There was no way Sophia was going to let Riley get her hands on a project this big–potentially worth hundreds of billions of dollars.
She craved every bit of credit and all the glory, wanting it entirely for herself.
Then her eyes landed on the first page of the document, the section introducing the partners. The lead investor was the Torres Group.
Sophia’s heart almost stopped.
Sebastian’s perfect face flashed through her mind.
The biggest shareholder is the Torres Group.
Her blood ran hot.
This isn’t just a business project anymore. This is a ladder straight to the top–a direct connection to the real elite: the Torres family.
If I can make a name for myself here, I won’t just have a foothold at Ashford Group. The name Sophia Myers will mean something in every high–society circle in Havenbrook.
No way was she letting Riley anywhere near this.
Riley always acted so calm, so above it all. But somehow, she always ended up stealing the spotlight when it mattered most.
But her little scheme didn’t go unnoticed by the two men in the room.
Lucas frowned slightly. But he figured Sophia was just trying to help him. So he let it slide and said nothing.
