With Devin–the man who called the shots in the village–now in her pocket, the rest of the locals would fall in line easily.
That would leave Sophia as the sole person who managed to crack the tough nut that was Cedar Creek. All the credit would land squarely in her lap.
As for Riley…
Sophia’s eyes drifted back to where Riley lay unconscious on the couch, and her gaze turned sharp and venomous.
Once word got out-quietly, of course-that she’d been violated by the local fool,
Riley would become nothing but a dirty punchline, a shameful joke whispered behind closed doors.
Then, whether it was Lucas or any
After all, who’d want someone espectable man, they’d steer clear of her like she was garbage.

Inside the private room, the sweet scent coming victory was almost intoxicating.
It was a perfect plan. Two birds with one stone.
“Mr. Hardy, we shouldn’t drag this out,” Sophia said, reining in her visibly smug expression and urging him on. “The drugs won’t last forever. If we wait too long, she could wake up in the middle of… things, and that would get messy. You should take her now.”
Devin nodded eagerly.
He walked over to the couch, bent down, and hauled Riley’s limp body over his shoulder.
Once Devin had disappeared through the doorway, Harvey turned to Sophia and asked quietly, “What about the other two?”
He glanced toward Anne and Calvin, who were still slumped over the table, out cold.
Sophia shot them a look of pure disgust. “Find some deserted spot outside town and dump them. Remember the story. Tomorrow, when they come to, you tell them you were all targeted by some criminals during dinner. They drugged you. You were a victim too, but you’re in better shape so you woke up first. Then you went through hell trying to find these two.
“As for Riley… just say you’ve got no idea where they took her. Pin everything on some made-up gang. Got it?”
That way, Harvey would stay completely in the clear.
“Got it.” But Harvey didn’t move.
His eyes stayed locked on Sophia.
“Sophia…” He took a step closer, shrinking the space between them. “I did a huge favor for you tonight. Don’t you think… you owe me a little something?”
Disgust churned in Sophia’s stomach, hard to swallow.
She couldn’t stand men like that-entitled, pushy, never knowing when to quit.

But she had to admit, Harvey had really delivered this time.
in fact, the whole twisted idea of handing Riley over to Devin’s mentally disabled son had been Harvey’s from the start.
He’d pointed out that Devin’s biggest weakness was his grown son who couldn’t find a wife.
Thinking it over, Sophia pushed her revulsion down and let a charming, seductive smile spread across her face.
She rose onto her toes and planted a quick, light kiss on Harvey’s cheek.
“Good boy,” she murmured softly. “Once all this dies down and the project gets rolling, we’ll celebrate properly. For now, just clean up the rest.”
It was just a token kiss, barely there, but the hunger in Harvey’s eyes only burned brighter.
He knew a woman like Sophia wouldn’t come easy. But now they were in this together-he’d have more chances down the road.
“Don’t worry,” he said, his voice low and determined. “I’ll handle the rest.”
With that, he turned to deal with Anne
Cal
Sophia watched him go, and her smile dropped in:
But for some reason, now that everything was set, a faint thread of unease began to wind through her chest. Like something had slipped out of her grasp.
No. She needed to see Riley taken away with her own eyes. Needed to see her delivered right into that fool’s bed. Only then would she feel completely settled.
With that thought, Sophia hurried out after him.
On the other side, Devin carried Riley out of the restaurant slung over his shoulder.
The cool night air hit his face, cutting through the feverish excitement that had been clouding his mind.
He glanced down at the woman draped over his shoulder. Even knocked out and helpless, there was an elegance about her, a beauty that still took his breath away.
Someone this delicate, this refined… and he was handing her over to his own son, who could barely string a sentence together…
Devin felt a strange, unexpected pang of regret.
He couldn’t help wondering-what did Sophia have against Riley?
It was like she wanted to ruin her completely. To make sure she could never bounce back.
But the thought was fleeting.
What was done was done. The deal was signed. There was no backing out now.
