Riley was out in the open once more. Her condition was even more dire than it had been in the car. Her entire body was drenched

in sweat.

Even in her slumber, her brows remained tightly knitted, as if she were trapped in a nightmare from which she couldn’t rouse

herself.

The female doctor promptly stepped forward, set down her medical kit, and checked Riley’s temperature, heartbeat, and pulse with the ease of someone who’d done it a thousand times.

It’s a potent cocktail of drugs, and in a pretty high dosage,” she said briskly, her tone grave. “Thank goodness you got her here in ime. And it seems like she’s been using her own willpower to fight it off. Otherwise, the damage to her nervous system would’ve been a whole lot worse.”

As she spoke, she took a syringe and a sedative out of her kit and prepped them.

Sebastian stood off to the side, his tall frame tense, his eyes fixed intently on Riley’s pain-stricken face. When he heard “the damage o her nervous system would’ve been a whole lot worse”, the air around him grew even chillier.

The medicine was injected slowly and started taking effect quickly. Riley’s struggling subsided little by little. But that deep frown never left her face.

The doctor cleaned the injection site, prescribed some medications for her to take later, and carefully went over all the things he needed to keep an eye on.

Sebastian committed it all to memory. Then he dampened a towel with warm water, sat back down beside the bed, and gently wiped the sweat off Riley’s face and neck.

The doctor packed up her kit and stood up. Looking at the scene in front of her, she couldn’t help but feel a twinge of emotion.

People on the outside said that the man in charge of Torres Group was cold-hearted and never showed any interest in women. But here he was, being so gentle and caring.

Her eyes happened to land on the belt and the rumpled comforter tossed on the floor. Curiosity getting the better of her, she said, Mr. Torres, tying the patient up like that-was it to stop her from attacking you when she wasn’t in her right mind? To protect yourself? I’ve got to say, that was… pretty smart.”

Sebastian paused for a moment while wiping. He kept his gaze down, just staring. A few seconds passed. Then he finally spoke

“No,” he said flatly.

“I was just holding myself back…

“From not being a gentleman.”

Riley had never experienced so much pain in her life. Her mind felt like it had fragmented into a million pieces, each one shouting a different command. Her entire body ached with a dull, sore pain.

She tried to fight her way out of that hopeless pit of suffering, but she didn’t even have the strength to wiggle a finger

After what seemed like an eternity of struggling in that fog, a glimmer of light finally pierced through the thick darkness

Riley summoned every last bit of energy she had and barely managed to crack open one eye. The first thing she saw was a fancy chandelier she didn’t recognize.

Where was she? Her mind worked sluggishly.

She remembered… she’d gone with Anne and Calvin to meet Devin to push forward with the resort project. And then her drink had been spiked.

After that… she couldn’t recall a thing.

Riley’s eyes popped wide open. Ignoring the aches in her body, she forced herself to sit up. The blanket slid off her shoulders, and she saw the man’s dress shirt she was wearing-clearly not hers. It was way too big and hung loosely on her.

Her whole body felt weak, and her clothes had been changed…

So… she hadn’t managed to escape after all? Had that scumbag Devin really handed her over to his stupid son… and had he done he deed?

Riley’s already pale face turned as white as a sheet. Hatred blazed in her eyes.

Just then, a shadow fell over her from behind. Sebastian had been lying beside her bed, hardly getting a few hours of sleep. The moment she sat up, he felt it.

He saw the terrifying look in her eyes and his heart constricted. Without thinking, he reached out to check if she still had a fever.
