Chapter 242 Justice Served
Chapter 242 Justice Served
It was true she hadn’t come home all night-but that was because Sebastian had taken her away

How was she supposed to explain that to these townspeople who’d been stirred up by Devin and had no idea what really happened?
Was she really expected to stand in front of everyone and spell out everything that went down between her and Sebastian last night?
But whatever was going on with Sebastian wasn’t something she could sum up in just a few sentences.
Devin seized the moment and began telling the crowd to go get fireworks and wedding favors, acting as if Riley marrying into the Hardy family was already settled.
His smug laughter echoed around her, stripping away what little dignity she had left.
Riley felt her chest tighten. A wave of helplessness threatened to pull her under completely.
But even if it killed her, she knew she’d never let that lowlife win.
Her mind raced-how could she get out of this mess and crush Devin’s scheme for good?
Just as the standoff dragged on…
‘Enough! All of you, quiet!”
An elderly but firm voice cut straight through the noise.
Everyone turned. An old man in a burgundy blazer, helped along by two younger men, made his way through the crowd and tepped forward.
Devin’s laughter died in his throat. Panic flashed across his face.
dis bulky frame trembled visibly. It took him a second to collect himself before he quickly wiped the grin off his face and spoke with orced respect, “Mr. Powell… What brings you here?”
Scott Powell was the most respected elder in Cedar Creek.
His family had deep ties in local politics over in Havenbrook.
Back when Devin became town mayor, it was only because Scott had put in a good word and backed him.
Facing someone who carried that kind of weight, Devin didn’t dare keep up his earlier arrogance. He immediately shrank back.
Scott didn’t even acknowledge Devin’s greeting. Leaning on his cane, he tapped it sharply against the ground and said sternly. “If hadn’t come, you’d have dragged the whole town’s name through the mud. Devin, you good for nothing. What was I thinking ever backing you for mayor?”
Scott’s anger was plain.
“To line your own pockets, you got local troublemakers to block the demolition project-causing delays again and again, holding back Cedar Creek’s development plan!

“And now, just to find a wife for your son, you sank so low as to drug a young woman and try to force her into marnage You you’re despicable Heartless.”
“N-no, Mr. Powell, I didn’t-” Devin’s face went pale. He stumbled over his words. “I’ve been set up! She wanted to marry into the Hardy family on her own-”
“On her own?” Scott’s face flushed with anger. “The police already came by and laid out what happened. How long are you going to
keep lying?
“You were caught red-handed trying to drag Ms. Harper away against her will! Even if they don’t have enough to charge you yet. nstead of staying home and thinking about what you did, you double down-bringing a crowd here to put on a show and shame Ms. Harper in public. Are you trying to cover your tracks, or do you just think you’re above the law?”
Faced with Scott, Devin lost every ounce of his nerve.
And with the town’s most respected figure speaking up, even those in the crowd who hadn’t known the full story now understood ust how wrong this whole scene was.
Scott watched Devin’s pitiful state, and the disappointment in his eyes deepened.
He glanced around at the gathered townspeople and announced gravely, “I’ve spoken with the other elders. Devin’s behavior is norally corrupt, and he refuses to learn. He is no longer fit to serve as mayor of Cedar Creek. We will submit a joint petition to have im removed from his position, expelled from Cedar Creek, and barred from ever returning.”
The words hit like a final judgment.
