He threw the question back at her with a hint of sarcasm, then let his gaze sweep the room. “Besides, with everyone watching like this, what exactly could I do to you?”

A chill ran through Sophia under the weight of his intense stare.

“That’s not your concern,” he replied coldly before walking out of the room.

Stepping into the hallway, the cool air did nothing to calm his nerves.

Expression blank, he pulled out his phone and called his assistant.

“Book me a round–the–world ticket, departing three days from now.”

Back in the villa’s living room, Riley’s anxiety hadn’t yet faded when the sound of a car pulling up suddenly cut through the quiet,, stopping right at the entrance.

Her heart sank.

“Someone’s here,” she said softly.

Sebastian’s eyes shifted toward the window.

Then, the sharp ring of the doorbell broke the silence inside.

Riley moved to the door and peered through the peephole.

Seeing Lucas‘ familiar–and detested–face outside, her eyes turned to ice.

There was no time to overthink it. She turned quickly.

“It’s Lucas,” she whispered. “Hide in my room.”

Without a word, Sebastian gave a slight nod and slipped silently down the second–floor hallway, disappearing from view.

Riley took a deep breath smoothing any emotion from her expression and putting just the right amount of distance in her demeanor.

She slowly opened the front door and looked at the man she’d shared so much history with, her tone flat. “How did you find this place?”

Lucas met her eyes directly, his voice low. “There are some things I needed to say to you in person.”

With that, he stepped straight into the living room.

But as soon as he entered, the faint scent of antiseptic caught his attention.

He frowned, sensitive to the smell, and his eyes drifted to the nearby trash can.

Just as she’d hoped, Lucas‘ focus shifted.

‘This is one of the most secure properties in all of Havenbrook. How did anyone get in here to attack you?”

Riley offered a bitter smile, ice lingering in her eyes.

‘You’d have to ask Sophia about that. How is it that her fans have such reach–they found out where I live and managed to slip in to pull something like this?”

‘Sophia’s fans?” Lucas nearly raised his voice. “Her fans tracked you here?”

He clearly hadn’t expected that answer. His face stiffened.

Riley turned, crossed her arms, and looked at him coldly. “It’s all over the news. It’s a mess. Are you telling me you haven’t seen any of it?”

Lucas‘ expression shifted uncomfortably.

He paused for a few seconds before finally admitting, “Riley, I saw it.

‘But… my grandfather took another turn and had to be hospitalized. I haven’t had a chance to deal with any of it yet.”
