Unlike before, he carried a large bunch of budding champagne roses in his arms. The soft, gentle shades looked like a tender dream under the warm lights inside the restaurant.
As he walked nearer, the sweet fragrance of the flowers drifted slowly toward Riley’s nose.
Riley’s eyes widened sharply, and her heart skipped a beat.
She whispered, “What are you doing with…”
Sebastian made no reply.
He walked over to her table and set the bouquet–nearly half her height–lightly on the empty chair beside her.
Then, right before Riley’s astonished eyes, he knelt down on one knee formally in front of her.
This decisive, authoritative man who ruled firmly in the business world now looked up at her with full devotion.
He pulled a velvet box from his inner suit pocket and opened it slowly for her to see.
A gorgeous diamond ring rested quietly inside the box.
Sebastian’s eyes were deep and calm, filled with sincere affection she had never seen on him before.
He said in a soft, earnest tone, “I’m sorry. I should have done all this for you long before today.
“I can never truly guess what you are thinking. I was afraid that no matter when I brought it up, you might turn me down.”
“But you are already my wife.” Sebastian held up the ring and looked at her intently. “I have to make this right with a proper ceremony. So, Riley, would you give me a chance to start our life properly?”
The whole room fell silent the second he finished speaking.
Melodic violin music echoed in the restaurant, and bright city lights glimmered outside the window. Everything faded away, distant and indistinct like scenes in a silent film.
All Riley could see was the man kneeling before her and the sparkling diamond ring in his hand.
She was struck with overwhelming shock.
Riley had always treated this arranged marriage in a practical way.
She never held any expectations for typical romantic marriage rituals.
Grand proposals, fancy diamond rings, or lavish wedding ceremonies were never things she hoped for.
Since Sebastian never mentioned them, she thought it was only natural to leave them aside.
Yet she never knew that he hadn’t forgotten, nor did he think little of such things.
He just could not figure out her real feelings. He feared being too forward would scare her off.

Beneath his calm and calculating demearior lay nothing but cautious, tentative affection.
Time slipped by minute by minute. Biley’s prolonged silence gradually wore down Sebastian’s calm mind.
The warmth in his eyes dimmed, and his hand holding the ring turned stiff.
Nervousness washed over him. He swallowed hard and asked in an unsteady voice, “Did I… end up scaring you?”
His voice lost its usual steady composure.
Riley spotted the fleeting fluster in his eyes.
In the next instant, she broke into a gentle smile.
She slowly stretched out her left hand. Her slim fingers looked like fine craftwork under the warm light.
Riley said in a teasing tone, “I am not that easily scared. Put the ring on my finger, Mr. Torres.”
Sebastian froze completely in place.
His eyes were filled with her smiling face.
It took him a long moment to come back to his senses.
He took the ring out of the velvet box and slipped it gently onto her ring finger.
The cold ring touched her warm skin, fitting perfectly in size.
Sebastian stood up at once. He reached out, lifted her up from her seat without warning, and held her tightly in his arms.
Riley was startled by his sudden move, then leaned softly against his chest.
Through his shirt, she could clearly feel his body trembling faintly.
Riley smiled faintly, buried her face in his neck, and teased him quietly, “Are you nervous, Mr. Torres?”
Sebastian rested his head deeply on her shoulder.
After quite a while, his dull voice came through.
