Chapter 383 Pick Whatever You Want

Sebastian let out a cold, grunting “Mmm” from his throat–which basically counted as a yes.

After seeing his parents out, the noisy living room finally went quiet again.

Riley couldn’t help but ask what was on her mind. “Why didn’t you want them to know we’re already married?”

Sebastian said, “Because my mom would get too excited. Tomorrow, the whole country would know. You just came back to the Harper family. Your foundation isn’t stable yet.”

He paused, his eyes deep. “Let’s wait. Once you’ve got your footing at Harper Group, I’ll give you a big wedding–the kind that shuts everyone up. Until then, just come around the Torres family as my future wife. Let those old relatives get a good look at you. It’ll help.”

The news that Riley was back in Nexopolis reached Raymond almost instantly–Vincent made sure of that.

Raymond called just as Sebastian finished his shower and was drying his wet hair with a towel.

On the phone, Raymond sounded like a kid who’d been abandoned. “My dear sister, you’re finally back? We were supposed to handle company stuff together, and you just disappeared on me. When are you coming home for a night? Don’t spend all your time glued to Sebastian and forget about poor Raymond and Dad.”

Riley smiled at his half–serious complaint.

She remembered the dinner Miranda had mentioned last night.

“I’ll come back tomorrow,” she said simply.

“Really?” Raymond couldn’t hide how happy he was. “Perfect. I’ll go tell the housekeeper, Paula Huck, to make some extra dishes. Anything you want to eat? Tell me now, and I’ll make it happen.”

“Raymond, I’m not a pig.” Riley laughed.

They talked for a few more minutes before hanging up.

The next day, Sebastian left for the office early. Riley had Vincent drive her to Harper Mansion.

The car pulled slowly into the familiar courtyard. Riley grabbed the gifts she’d prepared that morning and got out.

Zavier was still at the office–he had a transnational video conference to attend.

In the huge living room, Raymond was the only one there. He sat on the couch with one leg crossed over the other, scrolling through his phone with nothing better to do.

When he saw Riley walk in, he dropped his phone immediately and rushed over with his arms wide open for a hug. “You’re finally back. You left without a word, didn’t even send your location. Do you have any idea how worried I was?”

Riley sidestepped smoothly and dodged his bear hug. She shoved the gift bag into his arms and raised an eyebrow. “I texted you, didn’t I? What am I not a person?”

She was just teasing. Raymond grinned, showing all his teeth, ready to joke back. But before he could say anything, a chilly voice came down from the curved staircase on the second floor.

Melissa said, “Riley. Is that any way to talk to him? No respect. No manners at all.”

She walked slowly down the stairs, clearly unhappy

Right next to her, Elsie carefully held her arm, looking sweet and obedient.

“You shouldn’t talk like that, Riley,” Elsie said softly, agreeing. “You’ll hurt his feelings.” But her eyes sparkled with the anticipation of watching a show.

Raymond’s smile faded. He glanced back impatiently. “Would you two stop pretending you know how I feel? I like it when she talks to me like that. It’s called being close. Got it?”

Riley acted like she didn’t even notice the stiffness on their faces. She just gave a nod in their direction–a greeting in one gesture.

Then, she pulled two beautifully wrapped gift boxes out of another bag and handed them over.

She said, “For you, Mom. And for you, Elsie.”
