Riley knew she couldn’t tear open those old wounds based on nothing but a book that had been gathering dust for years. She needed time to cool down. She needed the right moment to verify what she’d forgotten.
So she wasn’t ready to tell Sebastian. Not yet.
She straightened up in his arms and lifted her eyes to his. The turbulence had been stoothed away.
“Hey. I need to tell you something.” She shifted the conversation. “Dad’s planning a banquet. He’s going to formally announce my return. And starting Monday, I’ll be working at Harper Group.”
Sebastian didn’t look surprised. Her reflection sat steady in his eyes as he nodded. “Your dad’s been working toward this for a long time. He wanted to bring you home the right way. Raymond told me he’d been fighting for it in the boardroom.
“Both of them have been good to you. You can lean on them a little more.”
He deliberately mentioned only Zavier and Raymond.
Riley nodded and let the topic of Melissa slide. She tilted her face up and gave him a small smile. “I’m hungry. Let’s go out.”
Sebastian caught the forced lightness in her voice, and the knowing ache flickered behind his eyes.

His gaze stayed on it for two seconds. Something sharp and searching flickered through his eyes, then settled back ince Latin

He wouldn’t dig or pry into Riley’s past–the wounds she wasn’t ready to open
He had enough patience to wait. He had all the time in the world. He’d wait until the day she che

Fifteen minutes later, the Bentley glided through the city’s neon–lit streets.
Riley stared out the window, her fingers curled tight. The words from the diary still churned in her heart
Sebastian caught her drifting but didn’t interrupt. He just eased off the gas and let the quiet bretch a little longer
Justin’s restaurant sat right on the waterfront, where every square foot cost a fortune. It took up three full floors of a rectore vintage building.
The valet spotted Sebastian’s plates and rushed to open the door.
The manager was already waiting at the entrance, all warmth and polished smiles. “Mr. Torres, Ms Harber, good evening M Brooks called ahead. We’ve reserved the best table with the best view for you both”
They were led through an elegant dining room. A violin hummed softly through the air
Riley was about to head up the spiral staircase to the second floor when she stopped.
She spotted a familiar figure.
Beneath the dim bar lights, Audrey sat alone on a stool, nursing a glass of whiskey. Dressed casually in a per
