“In those three years, I personally closed and delivered over five hundred projects. The total contract value exceeded a hundret billion dollars. That covers advanced tech R&D, cross–border real estate acquisitions, and complex international deryatime trading
She let her gaze sharpen and her voice turn cold. “Mr. Cooper, does that resume meet your standards? Or do you prefer the kind of experience where someone rubber–stamps deals, pockets kickbacks, and runs every project into the grootd“”
That last line hit Noah like a bullet.
His face went ashen. He’d assumed Riley was just another rich girl with a degree and a head full of theory. But every number she’d rattled off carried real weight, and the edge in her voice came from someone who’d actually navigated hundred–billion–dollar deals. It wasn’t an act.
The Boardroom went dead silent.
The shareholders who’d been waiting for a show weren’t spectators anymore. If her resume checked out, she wasn’t some nepotism hire. She was the kind of talent any Fortune 500 company would hand a seven–figure salary and equity to without blinking.
Bringing her into Harper Group wasn’t padding her credentials. It was bringing in a surgeon to save a bleeding patient.
Raymond watched Noah sit there with nothing to say, and it felt good. He twisted the knife. “Mr. Cooper, HR has already verified Riley’s full work history and credentials. If you’d like to review the documentation, it’ll be available after the meeting. Now, shall we continue with the marketing department restructuring plan?”
Noah opened his mouth, managed nothing but a grunt, and sank back into his seat.
Riley sat back down, flipped her notebook open, and spoke as if nothing had happened, “Since there are no further objections, rd like to address the unusual marketing gaps flagged in the financials earlier and offer my assessment.”
The two–hour closed–door meeting ended under crushing pressure.
When Riley walked out behind Zavier and Raymond, every shareholder and executive watching her had shifted their calculations.
Before the meeting, they’d been sizing up her value. Now they were figuring out who they needed to realign with.
Noah stormed off, his face still drained of color.
A few senior executives lingered, staring at Riley’s retreating figure. Her cool, sharp silhouette kept nagging at them.
“Owen, are you seeing what I’m seeing?” One VP muttered to the man beside him. “Isn’t Ms. Harper the one who came in a few months ago representing that Havenbrook company? Took on our entire legal and tech team solo?”
Owen dropped his voice, stunned. “That’s her. She was in a black suit. Sat across from our whole team and shredded every argument we had. Walked out with a three–hundred–million–dollar deal.
“The way she handled herself back then was even sharper than what we saw today. She was holding back in there.”
