Chapter 441 Cleared Out the Deadwood
Riley opened the report without a flicker of surprise.
She scanned the names on the resignations and pulled up Vincent’s meeting notes alongside them.

The five resigned staff members had stepped out halfway through the meeting to attend to matters, then straggled back after everyone else.
Her finger stopped on Logan Bailey, a distant nephew of Noah’s wife who’d been coasting on that connection for years. He built cliques, stirred up trouble, and had turned himself into the department’s biggest headache.
A faint, knowing smile crossed Riley’s face. Her first move as the new head had cleared out the deadwood.
The five who’d sent in their resignations were huddled around Logan in the corner.
A guy in black-rimmed glasses kept shoving his frames up his nose, his voice shaking. “Logan, did we jump the gun here? She’s been here one day, and we all quit at once. What if she calls our bluff? What if she just approves them? I haven’t even made next month’s mortgage payment yet.”
His words sent a fresh ripple of panic through the group. What if this blew up in their faces?
Logan watched their nerves falter and cursed them under his breath.
Spineless, every one of them.
But he kept the swagger painted on his face, slapping the guy on the shoulder and dialing up his volume.
“Relax. What are you so scared of?” He let out a scoff, dripping with contempt. “Who does she think she is? Some girl playing boss because her daddy owns the place. The five of us run this department. We hold the projects; we own the clients. If we all walk, half of marketing collapses tomorrow. She can flex all she wants, but she has to think about who’s actually gonna do the work. If this blows up, she’s the one who has to answer to the board.”
He scanned their faces and saw them easing up a little, so he leaned in and dropped his voice, pouring it on thicker. “And stop acting like she’s some kind of mastermind. Everything she pulled in that meeting was just a show. She threw her weight around because she’s the chairman’s daughter. That’s it. She’s brand new here. She asn’t even found her footing yet. The last thing she needs right now is a mutiny.
“We make a stink, and she’ll see this department isn’t her personal playground. We stick together, we hold the line, and she’ll have no choice but to back down. And when she does, we’re not just getting the Wharfbrook project back. She might even throw in a raise to keep us quiet.”
It was half analysis and half wishful thinking, but the group latched onto it anyway.
They traded uncertain glances, searching each other’s faces for something solid to hold onto.
In the end, greed won out over reason, and they nodded quietly, still hesitant, choosing to trust Logan’s gamble.
Then the waiting started.
An hour crawled past. Riley’s office door stayed shut. Silence behind it. Nothing.
She wasn’t sitting around doing nothing. Every so often, her intercom rang, and she called staff in for brief work discussions-

Those she summoned trundled in as if marching to the gallows, then left deep in thought. They headed straight for their desks and threw themselves into their work
The whole department fell into two separate vibes. On one side, everyone worked with dedication the office hadn’t witnessed in years. On the other side, Logan and his group were stuck out in the open with nowhere to retreat.
They couldn’t leave, and they couldn’t sit, and their faces grew more sour by the minute.
