A spark of inspiration hit Riley. Her lips lifted upward, the frost leaving her face. “Mr. Paker, how about this fit treat you been There’s a spot right by you office, Seaver Bistro. What do you think?” she said.

Seavoir Bistro was the top seafood spot in Wharfyok. Expensive as hef, and good luck getting a table.

Watching him choke on his own game took the edge off her temper.

She finally pulled out her phone and replied to Sebastian’s message without any rush.

“Funny coincidence. I’m heading to Seavoir Bistro for dinner too.”

Sebastian sent back, “Should we join up? Good chance to introduce you to David properly.”

Riley replied, “Not this time.”

Her goal tonight wasn’t socializing. It was fixing a problem or at least identifying one.

She typed out another message. “I’ll be talking business. Not convenient. When you book your room, get an extra one next to it under my name.”

Sebastian replied with one word, “Okay,” no questions asked. That quiet, effortless unspoken understanding eased her shoulders.

“Mr. Baker, we’re set on the location?” she asked, locking it in.

“Absolutely.” Stephen plastered his greasy smile back on. “But Ms. Harper, I need to brief my team on tomorrow’s trip. Do you mind waiting outside for a few minutes? I’ll come down as soon as I’m done,” he said.

Riley saw right through it. He wanted to get her out of the room so he could make calls or pull whatever strings he was pulling. She couldn’t be bothered to call him on it.

She just nodded and said, “Take your time. I’ll wait outside.”

She turned and walked out.

The moment the door clicked shut, Stephen watched her retreating figure-slender, upright, completely unfazed. He swallowed hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing.
