Colin kept glancing at Riley and Sebastian between fits of laughter, noticing that ever they looked genuinely puzzled by this sudden claim of an invitation. He swore he’d never seen such a vivid expression on Sebastian’s usually unreadable face.
Killian, growing irritated by the laughter, scowled at Colin, “What’s so funny? You think I’m lying?”
Afraid Killian might spin an even more ridiculous tale that would end in a spectacular public humiliation, Colin waved his hands and barely suppressed his grin. “Wouldn’t dream of it, Killian! We believe you. That’s enough; you can stop now.”
That seemed to restore some of Killian’s pride. Convinced he’d awed them with his conhections, he cleared his throat and resumed his hostly duties. “Come on, everyone, dig in! The hotel kitchen made these just for me.”
He made a show of playing host, but none of the guests touched the food. An awkward chill settled over the table.
Audrey was the first to crack. After scrolling through her phone for a while, she yawned loudly, stretched, and announced, “This is boring. I’m heading back to the hotel to nap.”
Killian quickly ordered the crew to steer the yacht back to shore. “Don’t rush off, everyone. There’s a small private party tonight, just a few friends in the circle. I’ll take you all to see how the real fun happens.”
As the yacht docked, Audrey hopped off first. Killian hurried after her, determined to get her number. “Audrey, can I get your number? I’ll send you the party location later.”
Before he could finish, an arm blocked his way. Justin had stepped between them, wearing a polite but distant smile. “Thanks for the…. few–thousand–dollar champagne. But my sister isn’t in the habit of giving out her number to strangers. I think we’ll pass.”
With that, he escorted Audrey away, joining Riley and the others without a backward glance.
Killian stood there, stunned, feeling as though he’d been used and discarded. It didn’t occur to him until later to wonder how Justin had known the exact price of the wine.
Watching their retreating figures, he muttered under his breath, “Who do they think they are? A bunch of freeloaders with no manners, eat my food, drink my booze, and then give me attitude. Should’ve just served them the cheap stuff. What a waste of good champagne…

Back at their private villa, the moment the door closed behind them, Riley spun around and confronted Sebastian.
She jabbed a finger at her lower back, indignation written all over her face. “Sebastian! Do you have any idea how mortified I was when Audrey asked me why my waist was all red?”
Sebastian, who’d worn his stone face all afternoon, finally relaxed into something more alive. A slow smile crept across his features “You could’ve told her it was an allergic reaction Audrey would’ve believed that.”
“You!” Riley huffed at his nonchalance, then lunged forward and sank her teeth into his arm–not hard enough to break skin, but firm enough to make a point. “You did that on purpose!”
Sebastian let her bite him, a deep chuckle rumbling from his chest. “Yes. I did. And I’ve been planning it for years”
Before she could retort, he scooped her up in one smooth motion and camed her to the living room, towering the gently onto thw plush sofa, Riley, remembering they had plans that evening, braced her hands against his chit to hep him at bay
