“Audrey.” Justin stopped walking, his expression darkening, his voice turning cold, “I remember you telling me you were going to bed before I turned in. So why were you outside with Colin at this hour?”
He paused, his tone gaining an edge. “A date?”
Audrey froze. Her mind raced, fingers twisting nervously as she scrambled for an excuse.
“What are you thinking?” Colin slid smoothly between them, pulling a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and waving it lazily. Tran out of smokes, came down to buy some, and bumped into this one looking for a late-night snack. We just walked together. What’s with the third-degree? You look like you’re interrogating a suspect.”
His shameless confidence made Justin hesitate for a moment.
