Chapter 568 A Will Unveiled

He paused, then dropped two heavy words, “His will.”

“Excuse me?!” Melissa blurted out, her voice sharp with disbelief. “Zavier’s stili in the hospital-he’s not gone! Why are you pulling out a will now? What’s your game?”

Jacob shot her a cold side glance, the ice in his eyes enough to make her snap her mouth shut.

He didn’t waste his breath arguing. Instead, he walked straight up to the front, pulled a sealed envelope from his briefcase, and held it up.

“A month ago, right after Mr. Harper’s daughter Riley returned home, he came to my firm personally and had this will drafted in advance.

“It states clearly that the forty-five percent stake in Harper Group held in his name shall, upon his passing. be divided equally between his two children-Raymond and Riley.”

He turned the document toward the room. “Of course, since Mr. Harper is still with us, I’m here today only to inform the board of the existence and legal validity of this document.

“Furthermore,” Jacob’s tone shifted, growing edged, “Mr. Harper also anticipated that with age, his health could face various complications. He therefore instructed that, should a situation arise where he was unable to perform his duties as chairman in a timely manner…”

He paused deliberately, letting the silence stretch, then finished word by word, “Full authority to oversee all operations of Harper Group would pass temporarily to Ms. Riley Harper.”

From across the stage, Riley and Raymond exchanged a look-both caught the same stunned reflection in each other’s eyes.

They had always assumed their father was just trying to make up for lost time with Riley in his own quiet way. It never crossed their minds that from the day she stepped back into the house, that stern, reserved man had already been preparing for the worst.

What must have been going through his mind as he sat behind that desk, meticulously laying a safety net under his children’s futures?

After reading the key provisions, Jacob closed the folder and made his way directly to Riley.

Then he drew a sealed letter from his inner suit pocket and handed it to her.

“Ms. Harper, your father entrusted this to me at the same time.”

Jacob’s voice softened, carrying a hint of an elder’s sigh, “He hesitated back then, wondering when the right moment to give it to you would be. Looking at things now… I believe this is that moment.”

Riley’s fingers trembled lightly as she took the envelope.

“Ms. Harper, even though you were away for many years, please believe me-your father never forgot about you.”

Chapter 568 A Will Unveiled

Riley felt her eyes grow warm.

Since her return, what she’d noticed most was the freedom Zavier gave her.

Whether it was living with Sebastian instead of at Harper Mansion, or the work she took on after joining Harper Group’s marketing division-

Zavier never interfered. It was as if, no matter what she did, he had her back.

Only now did it truly hit her.

The deep, quiet father’s love hidden beneath all that space and trust.

But to Melissa, this touching scene looked like nothing more than a ridiculous fantasy.

Everything in that will-from the stock split to the transfer of authority-centered entirely around Raymond and Riley. There was nothing in it for her, the woman who’d been his lawful wife for decades!

“This has to be fake!” Melissa rushed toward Jacob, her voice rising hysterically. “Jacob, did these two pay you off to forge this together? Did he forget he has a wife? I’m Mrs. Harper-his first and only wife!”

Jacob’s gaze turned frosty, stern with professional authority.

“Watch your accusations, Ms. Blackwood,” he said coolly. “If I recall correctly, prior to the accident, Mr. Harper had already formally retained my firm to handle divorce proceedings with you. The only reason it wasn’t finalized was your repeated refusal to cooperate-along with the constant drama you dragged him through.

“And you seem to have forgotten that your marriage to Mr. Harper was arranged between your families. A clear prenuptial agreement was signed by both parties, stating that all pre-marital and individual assets would remain separate. Are you suggesting now, Ms. Blackwood, that you intend to disregard that agreement while he’s unable to respond?”
