Riley paused for a beat, a flicker of surprise crossing her clear eyes. She straightened up in her seat and looked at Sebastian, slightly taken aback. “You already heard about it that fast? My brother told me it was insider information we got early. I didn’t expect word to reach Torres Group so quickly.”

But she was sharp. After a moment’s thought, it clicked. A slight smile touched her lips. “Then again, for a project of this scale, the news probably wasn’t really leaked-the organizers might have let it slip on purpose. You know, to test the waters and see how the big players react, so they can plan their next move behind the scenes.”

There was no point hiding anything from Sebastian, so she admitted openly, “Yeah, after my brother and I went over the preliminary proposal, we both thought it was a rare opportunity. But Dad’s being more cautious-he thinks the situation isn’t clear enough yet and wants us to play it safe. So Harper Group is staying on the sidelines for now, not jumping in just yet.”

After explaining, she grew curious and raised an eyebrow at him. “What about you? Did you hear about it through the senior channels at your company too?”

Sebastian walked over and sank into the sofa, a self-deprecating smirk curling at the corner of his mouth. He rubbed his brow with long fingers, his voice carrying a hint of fatigue. “Not exactly. That news… came from Aiden. Straight to my mother.”

“Aiden?” Riley paused, frowning slightly.

“Yeah.” A faint, almost imperceptible trace of distaste flashed in Sebastian’s eyes. He explained quietly, “After Aiden’s dinner invitation got turned down flat, he clearly wasn’t ready to back off. A few days ago, my mother traveled out of the city for some high-stakes negotiations. Somehow, he got wind of her schedule and showed up there again.

“He used business talks as a pretext to casually drop hints about the DreamWorld project to my mom. Judging by his approach, he was pulling the same old card-leveraging the fact that his mother died saving me, trying to guilt-trip her into cooperating. After all that maneuvering, his real goal was just to force Torres Group to team up with Quinn Group again and take on this project together.”

Sebastian’s tone cooled toward the end. “Out of respect for the past, my mother couldn’t make a scene in public, so she brushed him off for the time being. As soon as she got back, she discussed it with my father. And today, the moment I walked back into the office, he filled me in on everything.”

Riley’s expression turned serious. She walked over and sat down across from Sebastian, quickly piecing together the events from the past few days.

After a moment of thought, she said, somewhat puzzled, “That’s strange. Aiden called me out of the blue recently too, and the whole conversation felt like he was sounding me out about some kind of partnership. Was he talking about the same DreamWorld project back then?

“But from what I understand, the internal restructuring at Quinn Group is already done, and his cash flow issues have been resolved. He should be in full control by now.

“So why is he still running projects the same way? It’s like he can’t even eat a slice of pie on his own-he has to latch onto someone else like some kind of vine before he dares to move

forward.”

A thoughtful gleam passed through Sebastian’s eyes.

He connected the information Riley had just shared with what he already knew, quickly forming a clear picture.

After considering it for a moment, he looked up at Riley and analyzed slowly, “If the rumors about DreamWorld are true, and the returns really are as massive as everyone’s saying… then Aiden might be the one who wants this project locked down the most right now.”

Riley blinked, then understood.

It made sense-even though Quinn Group had a decent standing in the industry, compared to a legacy name like Harper Group or a powerhouse like Torres Group, they were still several tiers behind.

Especially now that the two families were connected through marriage, the sheer weight of their alliance was enough to make any competitor think twice.

If Aiden tried to take on either one with just Quinn Group alone, his odds were slim.

Once she worked through that, Riley couldn’t help but laugh, a touch of mockery coloring her cool features. “So he’s playing both sides, testing the waters with both our families at once.

“Pretty clever math. Whether he ends up partnering with Harper Group or Torres Group, he can use that leverage to make the whole greater than the sum of its parts, lock in a winning position, and secure the project. But…”

She paused, a shrewd glint appearing in her eyes as she looked at Sebastian. “Did it ever occur to him that if our two families decided to join forces instead, his whole plan would fall apart?”

Sebastian raised an eyebrow, a knowing look in his eyes.

Over the years, Harper Group and Torres Group had done plenty of business together, but most of it was routine collaboration.
