The tension in the room dropped to a dangerous level as El froze and all attention focused on her.

No wonder her blue eyes reminded me of Theon. Now, with her full face on display, El was mad beautiful and anyone who looked at her now could pinpoint the high cheekbones and strong jawlines of the Windermere family. 

Hell, El looked like the female version of the twins. 

She turned to Dominic whose expression was unreadable. “Sir?” Her voice wobbled, and for the first time since I knew her, I could tell that El was flustered. 

Dominic let out an exasperated sigh. “You are a Windermere.” He answered. “The day I threw you into the room, the mutants only beat you unconscious. You woke up not remembering anything so I let things be.” 

“So you lied to her and kept her hostage all these years?” My mother asked in disbelief while the twins stared at El like they’d just seen a ghost. 

“Well, it beats her being dead, doesn’t it, Diana?” Dominic answered with a sly smile that didn’t reach his eyes. When his gaze shifted to El, his smile died and from the way her face contorted in pain, I could tell she was feeling betrayed at the 

moment. 

“El.” Dominic stepped forward, but El took a matching step back. 

“Her name is Nora.” Miro casually stepped in between the two of them. 

“Eleanora.” My mother whispered to herself, as if remembering the past. 

“I think it’s time you stay away from my sister.” 

“A little late for that, don’t you think?” Dominic faked a wince. 

I turned to El, who seemed to be trapped in the world of thoughts going on in her head. I was about to ask if she was okay, but then Theon beat me to it. 

El’s gaze snapped up at him. 

Then, as if aware that everyone was watching her, she mumbled something under her breath before sidestepping Miro and marching out of the room. 

For a moment, there was hesitation, before Miro followed after her, then Dominic. 

Theon came around my bed, then he held both my face gently before kissing my forehead. I closed my eyes on impact, feeling warmth spread from my head to the rest of my face, and when he planted a kiss on both my eyelids, I felt the urge to 

melt into his arms. 

“I’ll be right back, okay?” Theon stated, raising my chin gently, and I nodded in reply. “I’ll ask Healer Kwan to prepare you for your leave.” 

With that said, he kissed me lightly on the lips before leaving the room. 

I heaved a breath I didn’t know I was holding, and when I felt eyes on me, I twisted around. My mother stood with one arm around her midriff and one laying on her shoulder watching me with a shimmer in her eyes.

“What?” My voice came out soft and I adjusted on the bed to face her. 

“I’m just…proud of who you’ve 

ecome.” She removed the IV needle from her hand and went round the bed. Then, when she got closer, she took my hands in hers. “Your father and I were worried you wouldn’t find a mate and yet, here you are with two powerful men by your side.” 

Her voice shook at the end. “I am life.”

“Will you forgive me?” 

Instantly, I drew her in, resting my chin on her shoulder as I fought back tears. 

“There’s nothing to forgive, Mom.” I rubbed her back and when I heard her sniffle and sigh, my heart simply broke all over again. 

My mother drew back and rested her forehead against mine and for a moment, we didn’t move. Then, like a rope cord tightening, I felt the bond between us grow stronger. Our wolves interlinked, bringing up an awareness, or rather a seventh sense, to her being and her emotions. 

It felt like being connected to a source and a little smile graced my face as our bond link became stronger. 

Suddenly the door opened and in rushed a female nurse dressed in white. When she saw us, she froze, her surprise.

“My apologies.” Her light voice filled the room. “Healer Kwan asked me to give you one more injection before you go.” “Please, go ahead.” My mom withdrew, holding my hand again. “I’ll go get some water. I’ll be right back.” 

I nodded and watched her leave, then the nurse approached. 

“Can you lay down for me, please?” She asked, and I obeyed, facing the ceiling. 

The moment I did that, my thoughts became preoccupied with El being a Windermere and I had no idea how much time passed, but then, my wolf stirred, bringing my focus back to a sound. 

I primed my eyes to really listen and heard the nurse’s heart thumping really fast. 

While I was wondering what got her so scared, my gaze fell to the syringe in her hand and I noticed the liquid in it was deep green. 

“What is that?” I asked as she reached for my wrist. 

She planted on a fake smile, her forehead beaded with sweat. “It’s just something for the trip.” 

Before she could insert the needle into my arm, I grabbed her wrist and, with a subtle flick, I snapped it. Her scream pierced my ears as she clutched the syringe tightly, but I didn’t let go. 

“Who sent you?” 

“I don’t know what you’re talking about! Please, let me go!” She sobbed. 

Just then, two young male nurses in scrubs rushed in, assessing the situation.

“Help! She’s trying to kill me!” I yelled and then they rushed towards us.

Just when I thought I could relax, one of the men, a ginger head, pulled out a small pocketknife from his scrub pocket and rammed it into my thigh. My own scream pierced the air and just as the second male nurse a dirty blonde tried to reach for me, I grabbed the syringe from the female nurse’s hand and plunged it into his eye. 

It was his turn to scream, and I had the urge to slit his throat, but because I was weak as hell, in a matter of seconds, the ginger had me easily overpowered and pressed down against the bed. 

“GET OFF ME!” I screamed in his face and although I could tell his intent was to harm me, his eyes were wild with fear and his heart was beating just as crazy.

Before I could answer, the now one–eyed nurse managed to get the syringe out of his eye only for his neck to get twisted all the way to the back by Miro who sped in within a blink. 

Another bloody scream pierced the air as Dominic, El, my mother and Healer Kwan rushed in and I turned to my other side to see the female nurse trembling with fear. 

In a flash, Theon was by her side but she was faster, falling to her knees. 

“THEY HAVE MY BABY!” She screamed, her hands both raised as she cowered in fear. 

“Who has your baby?” I asked breathlessly, sitting up in bed whilst wincing at the sting of my healing knife wound. 

The woman panted heavily as she looked from me to the twins standing over her. “I don’t know who they are!” She said, dipping her hands in her pocket and bringing out her phone with a shaky hand. “But they sent me a video of my girl being taken from the school bus. They said..” 

She burst into tears and my heart suddenly ached for her. “They sent a picture of her..” She pointed to me. “…and said that f she wasn’t dead within three days, they were going to kill my baby.” 

From the corner of my eye, I saw El show her own

“We really need to get her out of here.” El stormed towards me. “I’m afraid, these three are only the beginning.” 

Without hesitation, Theon carried me off the bed bridal style. “What’s happening?” He asked, facing El who stopped right in front of us. 

El tapped her phone and showed us her phone screen. 

In bold font, was a huge five figure amount and below it was my picture and location. Then a sudden chill rippled through my body as what I saw dawned on me. 

Someone put a bounty on my head and with this amount of money staked as a reward, I wouldn’t be surprised if half the kingdom came after me.
