Rosalie slept straight until the afternoon, and when she woke up, the beastmen who had out hunting had already returned.

gone

Cameron was peeking through the door crack when Rosalie pushed the door open and caught him redhanded.

Seeing the injury on her shoulder, Cameron blinked rapidly. He glanced at her, hesitating. Matriarch, you’re injured. Does it still hurt?

Rosalie let out a laugh. What you really want to ask is whether I can still cook, right?

Cameron looked aggrieved. As a fox, he could tolerate eating pork every day, but finally getting to eat the Matriarch’s cooking was a rare joyyet she had kicked him out to hunt. Following Elijah, who had such a cold temperament, he couldn’t even talk. At noon, he had to gnaw on a wild pheasant in the forest, feathers getting into his mouth.

And when he finally returned from hunting, even before reaching the house, he smelled something delicious from afar. But when he lifted the pot lid, there was only a chicken butt left. He almost cried from grievance. His stomach was protesting!

After holding it in for a long time, Cameron finally squeezed out a pitiful sentence, Matriarch, I’m hungry.

Rosalie couldn’t help laughing. This little fox was truly funny. Cameron’s face flushed red at being laughed at. He was just greedy, what was wrong with that?

Seeing the perfectly fine fox being teased until he was practically turning into a red fox, Rosalie finally stopped laughing and ordered, Go boil hot water, then pluck all the chicken feathers.”

Cameron’s drooping eyebrows instantly lifted. Okay!

Then she remembered something else. The pork too. Slice off the rind. Cut the rind into shreds and the meat into slices.”

Roger that!

Rosalie smiled at the silly fox and headed toward the small creek not far away. She remembered there were some scallions growing by the water. She went to pick a few for frying pork,

As she reached the river and was squatting down to pull scallions, she heard a splash behind her. Something was moving in the water.

Goosebumps crawled over her skin. Don’t tell me I’m unlucky enough to run into another wild beast

She turned around and finally exhaled in relief. It was Elijah.

Under the dusk light, Elijah’s wet hair clung to his chest, muscles outlined beneath, his pale skin gleaming with a soft glow in the remaining sunlight.

Rosalie turned her head away, refusing to look, but Elijah walked toward her step by step until he stood right before her.

His heated breath, mixed with the coolness of river water, washed over her. Rosalie stepped back, but Elijah pressed forward.

Rosalie truly didn’t know what Elijah was planning. If hatred came in levels, Elijah was probably the one who hated her the most among the beastmen.

Elijah was a peacock beastman. Peacocks treasured beauty, and she had plucked all his most precious feathers.

His large, wet hand clamped around Rosalie’s neck. His voice slithered like a venomous serpent against her ear. Matriarch, tell me, if I strangled you here, would anyone find out?

Rosalie froze, terror rising. The hand on her neck felt as if it could tighten at any moment and end her life.

But Elijah only gave a low laugh. Why are you so scared? Would I truly kill you?

He released her. Rosalie covered her neck and stepped back, still feeling the lingering warmth. where his hand had been.

She looked at Elijah’s refined brows and those charming lips now curled into a mocking smile. What impressive tricks you have, Matriarch. To save your life, you’ve acted gentle so well, even Leon is willing to fight for you. Remarkable.”

Under the setting sun, Elijah’s side profile looked solitary and desolate.

Rosalie didn’t wish to explain further and only said calmly, I know you hate me. When the three months are over, I will let all of you go.”

Another excuse from the Matriarch, no doubt.

Elijah didn’t believe her. Rosalie had said similar things countless times in the past to coax her beastmen into consummating their bond, but she had never fulfilled a single promise. This time, she just managed to pretend longer; who knew when she would reveal her true self again?

He turned and left. Rosalie clenched her fists. She needed to grow strongerstrong enough not to rely on anyone.

Back in the kitchen, the small space was packed, bustling with people.

She first kicked out the fox, who was always ready to steal food, then pushed the injured Leon back to his room to rest. Declan was left to tend the fire.

Chicken soup was boiling in the pot outside. Inside, Rosalie made stirfried chicken. She added leftover lard from previous days, tossed in the chicken, then chili flakes, garlic for aroma, and salt. Soon, the spicy chicken dish was done.

She chopped baby bok choy and gave it a quick stirfry.

When the dishes were served, Cameron was already waiting with a bowl in hand.

Perhaps because of the herbal medicine, Micah’s body had recovered enough for him to join them at the table.

Cameron ate happily, and the group cleared the dishes clean.

After dinner, Cameron dutifully got up to wash the bowls, and Rosalie went to brew medicine.

When she finished, the little fox was already at the doorway, staring curiously at the bowl in her

hands.

This time, Rosalie was generous. Want to try?

Cameron took a sip and immediately spit it all out.

His charming eyes filled with tears. Clutching his chest, horrified, he asked, Matriarch, isis this poisoned?

Matriarch, am I going to die!?

Rosalie barely held back her laughter. Yes. You’re doomed. Wait for death.

Cameron looked like he’d been struck by lightning. Seeing Rosalie trying not to laugh, he realized she had tricked him and stormed off indignantly.

Micah downed the medicine in one go. Holding his empty bowl, he looked at Rosalie with quiet expectation.

Rosalie pretended not to notice. A faint disappointment passed Micah’s brows, but he said gently, Thank you for brewing medicine for me, Matriarch.

Before he could finish, Rosalie lifted her fingersholding a piece of candied fruitand touched it to his lips. Micah smiled softly, the sweetness sinking straight into his heart.
