The Apocalyptic Queen Theresa
Chapter 556 The Empty Fortress
Theresa recounted everything she had discovered about the inner facility.

Most of the crowd didn’t believe her, but it didn’t matter. Their trust wasn’t what she sought- only to warn them.
Sage’s forces kept the crowd under strict control, then marched straight toward the inner camp.
Herman and his men were shaken to the core.
They stared at the inner compound–high–voltage wires glinting, machine–gun nests silent and menacing—and shivered at the suffocating stillness.
Sage’s people unleashed their powers and incinerated the machine guns, then blasted the gate
open.
Inside, they discovered the place was already deserted. The entire underground facility of the inner camp was empty—every room abandoned.
Theresa followed the main force through the compound, checking the rooms along their route; every one of them was empty. The lab where she had seen Ivan undergo corpse transformation was already stripped of equipment.
When Theresa reached the room where they had tested abilities the day before, she found the testing machine still there.
She casually told Quentin to take it.
An hour later, one of Sage’s scouts came to report.
“There are eight exits here. The farthest one leads out of the gorge. Outside, we found a wide clearing with marks showing that helicopters had landed there.”
Hearing this, Theresa was certain.
After she escaped yesterday, the people here had moved out overnight.
Everyone and everything had been taken away.
The trail she wanted to follow for her investigation was suddenly cut off.
In her mind, she heard again what Vinny’s mother had told her yesterday.

Chapter 556 The Empty Fortress
She had said the power behind this place was beyond imagination. And it truly was.

To build such a vast, intricate, and fully equipped research base in the heart of a gorge spoke of extraordinary strength.
But for them to abandon such a place so easily only proved they had another base, one even more advanced and powerful.
This was just one of their lairs.
With such strength, they were anything but ordinary.
But there was something else she had said.
She had claimed that everything those people said was a lie. What did that mean? Was she saying their talk about recruiting workers for the outer camp was false? Or was it something else?
For now, Theresa had no answers.
The trail of the Starborn Order had gone cold, and the Divine Academy had vanished as well. She no longer knew where to look.
The only reassurance was that at least this stronghold was now in their possession.
With the inner camp secured, they could utilize the resources left behind.
They had picked up a fine shell.
When they emerged, the people from the outer camp were visibly anxious.
Without the inner base, they seemed like lost souls, unsure of what to do next.
Theresa reassured them. They were welcome to stay here; from now on, her people would be stationed in the inner camp.
They could continue trading and conducting business as before, maintaining their previous way of life if they wished.
Of course, if any of them wanted to leave and join the Blazing Sun Alliance, they could come along.
“Wait!” Herman shouted as she prepared to leave. “What about the people inside?”
“The ones who went to work?” Theresa asked.

“They were all test subjects,” Theresa explained. “Each group was dragged in for experiments, one batch after another. Most of those who went in before are probably gone.”
That was also what Vinny’s mother had told her yesterday. Anyone who entered became a test subject–no one had ever escaped.
Herman paled and staggered toward the inner camp, hollowed out. Theresa offered no comfort.
Many on the scene chose to follow her people, leaving for the Blazing Sun Alliance. But Herman, and those who still had family among the inner camp’s victims, refused to leave.
Some rushed into the camp in despair. Some sat outside and wept. Others wandered the edges in silence, lost in thought.
Watching it all. Theresa felt a strange, indescribable weight in her chest.
She had long been hardened by mountains of corpses and seas of blood, by the cruelty of the apocalypse. But she still couldn’t bear to see people clinging to a broken illusion, fooling themselves with a hope that would never return.
They were still waiting for their loved ones.
Demn that Divine Academy!
Theresa led her forces back to the Blazing Sun Alliance. She left the newcomers in Lucas‘ care and went straight to Tania.
“Aunt Tania, have you heard of the Divine Academy?” she asked as soon as she stepped into the
institute
“The Divine Academy?” Tania repeated, shaking her head. “No… I’ve never heard of it.”
