“Run that way!”

The zombie virus had broken out on a weekday morning, a time when office buildings had the fewest people.
Theresa locked onto a target and pulled Quentin with her as she sprinted toward the landmark building. She climbed over a barricade, cut through a patch of greenery, and stuck to corners where no zombies were around.
Steven and Caleb, both speed ability users, managed to keep up with her. The rest of the group was running for their lives. Caleb’s wife, Lilian, was about to collapse, so he threw her over his shoulder and kept moving.
They ran as if their lives depended on it.
Behind them was a sea of zombies, ready to swallow anyone who slowed down even a step.
Theresa reached a tightly shut door.
She shoved Quentin forward. “Quentin, hurry up and open it!”
“Got it, Theresa.” He looked at the reinforced glass door. A thin wire appeared in his palm.
Steven caught up and saw they had stopped. “Theresa, we can’t get in?”
“Don’t worry. With him here, any door can be opened.”
When he heard that, Quentin’s lips curled into a small grin.
“But the zombies are coming!” Steven panted. Brandon and Tyler, who had followed right behind, looked pale.
At the back, Caleb noticed everyone had stopped. The zombie horde was right behind him. His eyes filled with panic.
If he stopped, they’d be on him in seconds, but the door ahead still wasn’t open.
The zombies closed in fast. Caleb hugged his wife tightly against his chest and charged to the front, toward Theresa.
Roar!
A zombie lunged at his back without slowing down. The foul stench and sharp sense of danger made his whole body freeze. His scalp tingled.
He knew he was done for.
There was no escaping in a place like this.
Regret hit him hard. He regretted ever coming here, and even more for dragging his wife along.

Now they were trapped. No one was getting out alive.
Just when he thought it was over, the zombie behind him stopped.
Not just that one–zombies on all sides froze in place, blocked by something invisible.
Caleb stood in shock, staring behind him.
Steven, Tyler, and the others were just as stunned, watching the zombie horde held back.
Wave after wave of zombies kept surging forward, but every single one was stopped. Not one could break through the unseen barrier.
They all turned their eyes to the source of the power and saw Theresa calmly raise her hand. Her expression was steady, almost relaxed. “How much longer?” she asked.
‘Done.” As Quentin spoke, the locked door clicked open.
The moment it opened, she barked, “What are you waiting for? Get inside!”
Steven and the others snapped out of it. Shocked by her display, they rushed through the doorway.
Once everyone was in, Theresa’s ability shifted, and her palm unleashed a towering wall of water.
Boom!
The water wall exploded outward, blasting the zombies away.
A multi–ability user!
She’s a multi–ability user!
The others stared at her, just as shocked as when they first saw her test results.
She was the real deal–a true powerhouse.
While they were still reeling, Theresa slipped inside and slammed the door shut with a click.
Outside, the scattered zombies scrambled back to their feet and charged again.
Even before the first wave got up, the next waves were already trampling over them, howling as they surged forward.
Zombies slammed against the reinforced glass door, pounding hard.
The steel frame rattled under the impact. The glass doors and walls outside were completely covered with zombies. They howled, bared sharp teeth against the glass, gnawed at it, and clawed nonstop.
Inside, the survivors barely had time to breathe before panic crept back in. Their temples throbbed as they stared at the sea of zombies outside. “Theresa, can this door really hold them off?”
They were already calling her with real respect.

“Of course not,” Theresa said casually.
“Then, what do we do?” Steven and the others all looked at her.
“What else? Keep running.”
