Theresa was a force to be reckoned with–her abilities were legendary, and no one needed an explanation.
Everyone’s eyes were glued to the steaming pot, salivating at the aromatic promise of a hot meal.
Suddenly, a low rumble of thunder shook the sky.
Darkness swept across the room as storm clouds rolled in, leaving only the fire in the center of the living room to cast a warm, flickering glow.
“Close the curtains,” Theresa commanded.
“Right away!” Steven sprang to his feet and yanked them shut.
By the time he returned, the pot had reached a furious boil.
“It’s ready! It’s ready!”
“Theresa, you go
first!”
She ladled out two generous bowls, ensuring she and Quentin were served before anyone else. Only then did she allow the others to help themselves.
Just as the group reached for their fragrant noodles, frantic footsteps echoed outside.
The curtains had just been drawn, obscuring the chaos beyond. Theresa was about to rise when a violent crash shook the door.
With a loud crash, the door they had locked was forced open from the outside. Everyone froze mid–bite, bowls in hand, as they saw Quentin’s previously secure door being breached.
There were skilled lock–pickers outside as well.
A chaotic swarm of people–men and women alike—poured in.
“Shut the door!” someone shouted.
Behind them, the wailing, snarling horde of zombies surged forward.
Among the pursuing undead, a speed–type mutant zombie moved with terrifying speed.
Its gray,
lifeless eyes were wide, mouth stretched into a grotesque O, and its entire face contorted in a hideous mask of rage as it lunged at the last two people in its path.

“Ahhh-”
The zombie crashed forward with brutal force.
“Close the door!”
The man who had just burst in shot a cold, sharp glance at the two stragglers who had inadvertently brought the zombies with them. Without hesitation, he seized the nearby solid wooden door and swung it forcefully, aiming to shut it.
At that critical moment, a woman in the middle shoved another woman aside and lunged through the doorway, barely making it inside in time.
Bang!
The door crashed shut, trapping the final person outside with the encroaching zombies.
“Ah!”
A blood–curdling scream pierced the air, accompanied by the sickening sound of bodies being battered against the door.
The horde swallowed the unfortunate soul whole, tearing into flesh, muscle, and bone—face, stomach, thighs, even fingertips and scalp–until the horrifying feast ended in gruesome
silence.
“Chomp.”
“Chomp!”
“Rip.”
“Rip!”
The echoes of savage carnage reverberated outside.
Inside, everyone stood frozen, hearts hammering. Even Theresa’s group had temporarily forgotten about their meal.
Their attention soon shifted to the newcomers who had barged in.
“That’s Patrick!” Steven whispered, recognizing the blood–smeared, hardened figure from the helicopter–the man who had demanded obedience, enforced discipline, and even tried to flirt
with Theresa.
Tension gripped the room at the sight of him and his entourage.

Patrick, however, lit up at the sight of Theresa. His sharp green eyes glinted with unmistakable excitement.
“Theresa! Hannah’s with them too!” Steven noted another familiar face in the chaos.
Hannah had once shared their dorm, but she had never been inclined to follow Theresa.
Theresa’s gaze followed Steven’s pointing finger to Hannah–petite, trembling, her pale face streaked with blood and grime, hair wild, one shoe missing, standing only in socks. The protective bubble of her past arrogance–courtesy of her brother and others–was gone. Clearly, her escape had been brutal.
Her eyes swept over Steven and the others. They looked unscathed–exactly as they had when they parted ways. Not a scratch, not a drop of blood.
And somehow, they were all holding steaming bowls of instant noodles, overflowing with meatballs, eggs, and cabbage.
The savory aroma made Hannah’s head spin.
How are they doing so well? How did they even get this much food? They’re supposed to be struggling, just like we are, stuck in the middle of a zombie swarm.
“So, it’s
you guys,” Patrick finally said, his voice cutting through the tense air.
