Once Theresa returned, her first priority was to share the disheartening news with Tyler. With a heavy heart, she laid it all out for him—Tania had unequivocally rejected him. That flicker of hope, which had never truly ignited, was now extinguished completely.

After delivering the news to Tyler, Theresa steeled herself for yet another task—she had to convey Tania’s rejection to Lucas. Despite the whirlwind of her day, she knew this was something she couldn’t avoid.

She found Lucas at Xavier’s house, the atmosphere buzzing with life.

As soon as she stepped inside, Xavier’s face lit up with a broad smile. “Theresa’s here!” he announced, his voice filled with warmth.

“Old Mr. Keaton,” Theresa replied, her tone cheerful as she carried in two boxes of cookies, a small offering to brighten the day.

“You come all this way and bring treats too? You really know how to make an old man happy!” Xavier exclaimed, his eyes sparkling at the sight of the cookies.

“Well, Chet has so few hobbies, Old Mr. Keaton. I rarely visit, so I thought I should bring a little joy along with me,” she said, her smile genuine and bright.

Xavier chuckled heartily. “You’re something special, Theresa. If only Lucas had half your sense, I could finally rest easy.”

He shot a pointed glance at Lucas, who stood awkwardly beside him.

Lucas immediately shifted into his best ‘I’m in trouble’ demeanor, the guilt practically radiating off him.

“What’s up with him?” Theresa inquired, her brow furrowing in concern.

“I’m just worried about his life choices. Lucas is twenty-eight, nearly thirty, and still single! It keeps me up at night,” Xavier lamented, shaking his head in exasperation.

“Old Mr. Keaton, you should take it easy. Matters of the heart are all about timing and luck. You can’t rush these things,” Theresa interjected, defending Lucas with a compassionate tone.

Xavier turned to her, his expression a mix of frustration and determination. “I’m not rushing; I’m just frustrated. Lucas is so closed off. If he has feelings for someone, he’s too scared to admit it.”

“Grandpa!” Lucas protested, his face reddening with embarrassment.

“Shut up. Theresa’s here today, and since you’re too afraid to ask, I’ll do it for you. Theresa—”

Lucas panicked, his cheeks burning bright as he stepped forward, grabbing Theresa’s arm and pulling her away gently.

She shrugged him off playfully. “Why hide it? Since Grandpa is already aware, I might as well be straightforward.”

Lucas was left utterly speechless, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water.

If they can be like this, perhaps it’s not so bad after all.

Once dinner concluded, Xavier offered for Theresa to stay the night, but she politely declined, stating she still had matters to attend to. Lucas walked her to the door, a hint of reluctance in his stride.

“I heard from Bennie that you had him rush out another ten reports?” he asked, concern etching his features.

“Yeah,” she replied, her tone light yet serious.

“Don’t wear yourself out like that. Take it one step at a time,” Lucas advised, his voice filled with genuine care.

Theresa shook her head, a small smile playing on her lips. “You just don’t understand the kind of influence the Starborn Order wields.”

“But the Starborn Order hasn’t made any moves yet,” Lucas pointed out, his brow furrowing in confusion.

They had chipped away at several departments of the Order, yet it remained eerily quiet, not sending even a single message in response.

“I don’t think it’s that they’re afraid of us,” Theresa said, exhaling deeply as she tilted her head to gaze at the star-speckled sky. “I believe they simply don’t care about us.”

Lucas inhaled sharply at her words, the weight of them settling heavily in the air between them.

They don’t care about us… We, the Blazing Sun Alliance, are undoubtedly the most formidable camp in the world, and the Starborn Order doesn’t care about us?

As they stepped out onto the street, the vibrant glow of bright lights surrounded them, illuminating the night with a sense of hope and uncertainty.
