**TITLE: Kept Woman 683**
**CONTENT: Chapter 683 Cutting Away the Rotten Part**
He had already resolved himself to a decision.
He would have both Lily and Clara.
That was final.
In this chaotic world, where the apocalypse reigned, the old rules and morals had been cast aside like yesterday’s trash. As the leader of the camp, he believed he could claim both women without it causing much of a stir.
Lily was practical, level-headed. Surely, she would come to understand his reasoning.
At least, that was the conviction he held tightly in his mind.
Yet, when he voiced his thoughts, silence met him like a cold wall.
“Where is Lily?” Harrance demanded, his voice laced with frustration as he glared at his subordinate, who looked as though he was grappling with a severe case of constipation. “I said, where is she?”
“Mr. Campbell, Ms. Barnes has gone with the Blazing Sun Camp,” the subordinate replied, his voice shaky.
“What!” Harrance’s voice rose, disbelief mingling with anger.
In a flash, Harrance sprang to his feet, his heart racing as he stormed out of the room, his mind a whirlwind of confusion and dread.
As he burst outside, a fighter jet roared overhead, slicing through the sky and veering off to the east.
“And Ms. Barnes mentioned she would never see you again in this life,” the subordinate added, his voice trailing off into the wind.
In that instant, Harrance felt his heart shatter into a million pieces.
He stood there, watching the jet as it vanished into the horizon, his feet propelling him forward as he ran towards the easternmost city wall, desperation fueling his every step.
But no matter how fast he sprinted, he knew deep down he would never catch up to that jet.
By the time he reached the top of the eastern wall, the aircraft had disappeared, leaving only a faint black speck in the distance, mocking him.
Harrance stared at it in disbelief, his mind racing with the implications of her departure.
A sudden wave of despair and panic crashed over him like a tidal wave.
This was the apocalypse, a world turned upside down. He had no helicopter at his disposal, no fuel to chase after her, and outside, the shadows of zombies lurked, waiting to feast on the living.
Never to be seen again.
He felt the weight of reality crash down upon him.
She is truly gone.
He had genuinely lost Lily Barnes.
The woman who had captured his heart for the past fifteen years.
Panic seized him, wrapping around him like a vice. He was terrified, utterly lost.
“Lily!” he shouted, his voice echoing into the void.
“Come back!”
“What’s there to cry about? My grandmother always said that if an apple rots, you simply cut away the bad part. The rest is still good,” she replied, her voice steady.
Theresa’s eyes brightened as she listened to Lily.
She admired Lily’s strength, but it was her decisiveness that truly captivated her.
Letting go of fifteen years of love would not be easy, yet Lily possessed the courage to sever the source of her anguish.
To forgive Harrance’s betrayal would mean a life of misery and humiliation, serving him in the camp while enduring the sight of him with Clara.
Did I really ruin my life? Why allow it to drag me down?
If something was rotten, it was better to cut it out early. Life was never guaranteed to be smooth.
“Exactly! Our alliance is filled with good men,” Theresa chimed in, a teasing smile playing on her lips. “Come to my car and take your pick. Any man who marries you will be the lucky one.”
A rare smile broke through Lily’s usual tension. “Ms. Hall, I appreciate that, but I don’t want to be someone else’s good fortune. I want to carve my own path.”
Theresa’s smile widened, clearly impressed by Lily’s resolve.
By noon, the helicopter returned to the Blazing Sun Alliance, the landscape sprawling below them.
Lily and Calvin were utterly drained, fatigue weighing heavily on their eyelids.
During the later stages of the flight, they had succumbed to sleep, oblivious to the breathtaking view of the Blazing Sun Alliance from above.
The others aboard the helicopter were equally exhausted. The entire journey had taken a toll on them, leaving them completely drained.
